Prelude

The past two months have seen the arrival of various damaged Drifter fleets. For reasons unknown, they showed up in New Eden. Adding to the mystery is their damaged state and their unwillingness to communicate. Considering how the Drifters acted in the past when they sent fleets, there are reasons to be worried.
The past two months the Arataka Research Consortium (ARC) has dedicated alot of resources and manpower to find out what is going on and if it could be a possible new threat to the cluster.
ARC has engaged the Drifter fleets as much as they could, both to learn more, as to halt any possible threats. A large battleship fleet that arrives unannounced does not exactly say 'We come in peace', especially not if said battleships attacked without warning in the past.
From the wreckage, mysterious corrupted data vaults have been recovered that could lead into a deeper insight of the Drifter actions & motivations.

This article will showcase what we know right now, the new developments on both sides (Drifters & ARC) and what data has been cracked from the mysterious vaults. But first we start with a list of all known Drifter fleet sightings to this day.
Analysis of the Drifter fleets sightings

First we'll sum up all the fleets spotted so far, where and when, to have a better insight on the progression & when certain breakthroughs happened. Then we'll look more into detail on various encounters.
Do note that all but one fleet has been engaged & destroyed by various forces around New Eden. The only Drifter fleet that was not engaged was the first one spotted by ARC in Anoikis.

A quick glance show they have mainly focused on Caldari territory, close around the Jita system and Minmatar space, seemingly focused around the Eram system, home of the Arek'Jaalan site. It's not yet sure why they focus on these areas yet.
Another curiosity is that they always appear at stargates when present. The reason for this is not known.
So far, the Amarr Empire has not been visited, this could be due to historical reasons.

The first few encounters caught many off guard, as nothing could be gleamed on why the Drifters came here. The Drifter battleships were heavily damaged into structure, but their overshields (blue) were still operational.
Only thing of note this early on was the leaked Concord file, showing a strange glowing orb.

After the Nourvukaiken encounter, things get more interesting. Not only has their overshield failed, it is also the first time corrupted trinary data vaults are recovered, the First Vaults. The distorted images recovered after decoding the data showed an unknown ship, possibly the cause of the damaged Drifter battleships.
From this encounter onward, these vaults would be recovered standard from the wreckage.
The encounters at Isanamo, Evuldgenzo and Altrinur saw intense attempts at communication with the Drifters in the vain hop of a response. These attempts were made by both independent capsuleers as ARC personnel.

However, from the Altrinur sighting, things sped up. Not only were the Second Vaults uncovered, but from now on, every new encounter came with corrupted vaults holding new data. The Third Vault data was first discovered at the Ikuchi sighting. Emolgranlan was the site of the first Fourth Vault data salvage.

The Jovelier sighting is the most interesting of them all, as it deviated greatly from previous encounters. Not only was it the first sighting in Gallente space, it also saw the Drifter cruisers escorting their battleships. Do note that the Yashunen gate leads directly into Caldari space.
While the battleships were severely damaged, the cruisers had not sustained any damage.
They also proved to be a tough force to take down. The battleships went down relatively easy in their damaged state, but the cruisers in their undamaged condition and possessing excellent gun tracking were a force to be reckoned with.
Once the battle was over, two new vaults were uncovered as well! The Fifth and Sixth Vault were recovered from the wreckage.

Decoding the corrupted trinary data vaults

So far, 6 different data vaults have been retrieved, heavily coded and containing distorted images.
Below are the links to the data on the 6 different vaults + the leaked Concord file, along with a link to the images reconstructed by ARC

The leaked Concord file threw most folks off initially, as it looks like a star. However, thanks to the decoding of the data vaults, we are now sure it is a very close up image of the weapon/energy source of the unknown ships.

Decoding the various vaults gives access to distorted & corrupted images that need to be filtered & decoded as well to get a good image. Luckily ARC has excellent decoders among its ranks, not to mention the various independent capsuleers who also work on this.

One of the first things discovered was that the reconstructed images revealed an unidentified ship, first observed by Trii Seo & Avio Yaken:

The unknown ship buzzing past the camera

As of today, we still don't know to whom this ship belongs and what it is. Thanks to all the reconstructed images gathered from the 6 vaults, we do know that the recorded location is a shattered planet system. Where exactly is unknown, but suspected it is in Anoikis (but not enough data to confirm, as it doesn't match any known shattered system in Anoikis)
The alien craft itself is shown to be smaller & much more mobile then the Drifter battleships. Multiple of these alien craft are recorded during this engagement between them & the Drifter battleships.
The red orb seems to be a weapon of sorts, firing a red beam; as shown below:

The strange orb-weapon, firing its red beam

Not much more could be unveiled form the decoded images so far, except that it registers a battle between two (small?) fleets. One being a Drifter fleet and the other the unknown ships. Who the aggressors are in this conflict is unknown, but they sure aren't friends.

The corrupted data vaults also gave another mystery to chase, spotted by Avio Yaken:

A strange structure is seen on the left

This unknown structure has only been discovered recently on the footage, as it sits on the edge of an image & only is in view for seconds. No details can be seen, making it impossible to identify.

So far, we know very little still. We do not know the location (Anoikis is suspected, but not sure) only that it is very likely in a shattered system. We know nothing of these alien ships, except that they're fast & small and not afraid of engaging the Drifter battleships.
The main weapon of the strange ships seems to be their orb, firing red beams from it.
And of course the unidentified structure, nothing is know about it, whether it's Drifter or something else. Knowing what it is can help alot in determining the location.

From this footage, we can guess why the Drifter fleets come to our space; perhaps they try to look for a counter to these ships in our space, scanning everything? Or maybe they try to warn us against them in some bizarre way? After all, we can decode the data they brought to our space.
But at the moment it is hard to tell why they come to our space with their damaged battleships in fleets.

The Drifter cruisers

These are the newest ships fielded by the Drifters. First sighted almost a week ago at a Jove Observatory, they now also accompany the damaged Drifter fleets as they venture in our space.
Unlike the battleships, these cruisers are not damaged & have their full arsenal at their disposal; overshield, doomsday and fast-tracking omni-damage guns, making them a formidable foe.
Research is still ongoing regarding their capacities, but of note is that their Doomsday is not omni-damage like the battleships, but focused in the EM/Kinetic damage spectrum. A hint on the weaknesses of their unknown enemy?

The Drifter cruiser, with its glowing overshield active

It is likely they developed this cruiser as response to the unknown ships, as they never bothered changing their battleship doctrine fighting or defending against us.
The cruiser is heavily armed and the guns are fast-tracking, a good counter against those fast buzzing alien ships. Whether it is effective against them remains to be seen, but the cruisers are a dangerous foe for any capsuleer that attacks them.
But it's very likely that they'll now accompany the damaged Drifter battleship fleets when they appear in New Eden again.

Alongside the discovery of these new Drifter ships, another observation was made; The Jovian Observatories have deteriorated further, leaving larger debris clouds. They're fracturing further due to the Drifters' continued gathering of the Antikythera elements within these Observatories.
It's not yet understood why they gather these elements and for what purpose.

Summary: Mysteries abound!

In short, we don't know why the Drifter fleets come to us. We do know that the alien ships seem to possess formidable weaponry, using a technology unknown to us as of yet. But why they fight the Drifters or who is the aggressor in between the two is not yet known.
No known nation has fielded such technology so far, so at most it could be one of them fielding classified technology against the Drifters.
It can also be a new, undiscovered faction in Anoikis, possessing technology unknown to us.
Revealing the structure could tell us a whole lot more, so we have to put our hopes into retrieving new data vaults from the Drifter wreckage. This is because multiple attempts by various capsuleers to communicate with the Drifters has failed so far.

We urge to continue all attempts at opening communications with the Drifters, as a breakthrough would be able to turn things upside down, hopefully for the better
Prelude

5 years ago, the Battle for Caldari Prime occured and in a way, both sides managed to achieve their objective. The Gallente managed to remove the Caldari Titan in orbit of Caldari Prime, whom they saw as a threat due to it's destructive doomsday weapon.
The Caldari managed to hold Caldari Prime against all odds, thanks to the relentless efforts of their loyal Dust mercenaries who fought for weeks against the Gallente war machine, cut off from Caldari support due to the planetary blockade.
Admiral Visera Yanala's sacrifice, ramming the Titan into Caldari Prime did help the defenders as it threw the Gallente ground forces into chaos.

The outcome was a truce, a treaty of peace between the State and the Federation. No ships of either nation would be permitted to patrol the planet's orbits, enforced by Mordu's Legion. Both sides would let their corporations manage their parts of the planet, a move that resulted in all the cities returned under Caldari control, while the Gallente governed the largest parts of the planet.

And because of this, every year, the people who fought & died at Caldari Prime are remembered, no matter which side they fought on, as both gave their best and won. The Gallente got a secured home system with the removal of the Caldari Titan. The Caldari kept their homeworld.

The 5th anniversary of the Battle of Caldari Prime

Several people gathered for this celebration, organized by Commander A9. They brought out their party ships, fitted with lasers & fireworks for impressive displays.
The event kicked of with talks about the battle itself, from capsuleers who were there to witness it to the aftermath that saw many events unfold, from Morwen Lagann's Heart & Home relief effort to the diplomatic efforts made by both the State & Federation to a lasting peace for Caldari Prime.
Not to mention the hugely successful first anniversary of the Caldari Prime battle! But we also talked about the many lives that were touched in direct & indirect ways. After all the Aurora Arcology foundation was a direct result of this battle. But it also saw a change of heart in many Dust Mercenaries, giving them a cause to believe in.
Links to many of the discussed events & occurrences can be found at the end of this article, to keep it all easily organized!

After this, people undocked and prepared for a visit to the old battleground. Today it is nothing more but space as the last of the wreckage has been salvaged or burned up in the atmosphere of the planet years ago.
Then people prepared themselves for a flyby under guidance of Commander A9, to honour the fallen of this battle.

Preparing for the flyby over Caldari Prime

After the flyby, folks returned to the Memorial Citadel and all attendees received a festival launcher & 1000 charges of fireworks!
Now the party could kick of for real, with magnificent fireworks blasting in every directiong, showing people with colourful displays.

Painting the Memorial Citadel red with the glow of fireworks. One hell of a show!

During this, more capsuleers showed up, joining in the colourful & flashy celebrations. Not even death could stop one capsuleer from attending! Despite being podded enroute to the event, Francophobia just boarded a new ship with his fresh body & kept going. Despite the delay, he was very welcome, managing to catch the end of the festivities despite the major delay that death incurred on him!
And so the event closed, with the arrival of a death-defying capsuleer. people had a good time. The stories exchanged were great, allowing veterans to share their knowledge & tales with younger capsuleers who only read about these events.
And the fireworks displays were very impressive, showcasing how much it has evolved from the days of simple fireworks to the magnificent displays of today!

One last time, giving it all we got with our fireworks! Shades mandatory!

Closing note

The event was small but enjoyable. those who didn't attend missed out really.
Prelude

Two years ago, a similar hunt event occurred. Capsuleers were tasked with rescuing kidnapped capsuleers from the Guristas before they could been used in experiments to unlock capsuleer & cloning tech by the 'Schism' faction.
The Schism is a splinter faction of the Guristas, involved in illegal high-tech research and is lead by one of their leaders, Fatal.

It was thought that after this, their plans to replicate capsule tech of their own was thwarted. But they just started anew!
But this time they're stealing empty capsules in order to unlock these technologies for themselves. So once again, capsuleers are called upon to stop the dastardly Guristas!

Hunting the Guristas

Most common place to find them are the detention sites. They're spread across the Eden cluster, housing a few wings of Guristas to protect their stolen capsules.

A Gurista detention center, used to store the stolen capsules and other loot from Gurista raids

Once such a site is engaged, Guristas will continue calling reinforcements in an attempt to overwhelm you with numbers. Make sure you fly a well tanked ship, able to resist their main weapon damage which is kinetic/thermal focused.
The best counter is to use kinetic-focused weaponry yourselves to take down as many ships as you can to keep their ship numbers to a manageable level.
When you wreck havoc like this, their overseer will make an appearance. As he is a capsuleer, his ship is a much tougher nut to crack, so beware. Maintain your kinetic focused offense & he should go down eventually as long as you can maintain your defense as well.
Don't forget to recover the stolen capsules while you're at it. They should be anchored somewhere around the detention center. Retrieve them to prevent them from falling into Gurista hands.
Do note that these capsules are not always present at the detention sites, leaving you to just fight the Guristas to prevent them from stealing capsules in future raids.

If you want to do more, the Guristas transport the stolen capsules from the detention center to their transportation hub in lowsec space. While more stolen capsules can be retrieved here, giving a larger blow to the 'Schims' faction research, these are much more heavily guarded with their Caiman capital ship to lead the defense of the site.

Image released by Concord Command Personnel

With the presence of such a formidable ship, along with the Gurista Transportation site being located in lowsec, only the bravest and most equipped capsuleers can take on these sites, preferably with companions to lesser the risk of additional hostile interventions.
These Guristas follow an enhanced version of the Detention defense tactic; overwhelming you with numbers, just with more powerful ships. So pack kinetic weaponry & field kinetic/thermal defenses to take them down fast with minimal damage. The less time spent here, the better.
Keep in mind that their Dreadnought is piloted by a Gurista capsuleer & can be very hard to take down due to this, possessing formidable damage resistances.

Rewards

So what's in it for those who thwart the Gurista plans? Because it is all too known that capsuleers rarely do things from the good of their hearts, so there has to be rewards.
Most rewards come in the form of looting the wreckage of the unfortunate Gurista defenders as it is hard to come by their items & tech in a legal way, hence it is highly sought after.
The most common find will be the Gurista fireworks nicknamed 'Naughty people Firework', for your celebration needs. Guess the Guristas like to part as well!
Next best thing to find are the various Agency boosters variants you can retrieve from the wreckage.
You can also find various Gurista outfits if that's your thing, along with ship appearance modifiers (Skins).
The more sought after items are of course the Gurista exclusive Cerebral accelerators that boosts the capsuleer ability to learn greatly. If you are lucky, you can even retrieve a Gurista exclusive ballistic control module that boosts both your missiles and drones efficiency at the same time!

In short, a reward summary list:

- Naughty People Fireworks
- Agency Boosters: 3 variants, each with 3 levels of efficiency
- Various Gurista outfits: dress like a pirate! (If you don't mind where it came from...)
- A large variety of Ship appearance modifiers (skins)
- Bounties on the Gurista capsuleers; 350.000 for the battleship and 2.5 million for the Dreadnought.
- The Gurista Cerebral Accelerators, which come in 3 variants: The basic one, a more efficient one and a longer lasting one
- The Gurista Ballistic Control system, coming in two variants, both boosting Drones & missile weapon systems.

The last two rewards can only be recovered from the boss wreckage. All the rest can also be retrieved from the various Gurista wreckage you leave behind on the sites.
The capsule shells you retrieved are best turned in at your local authorities. If you are less concerned, the various corporations are willing to buy them off you for a small price.Jandice Ymladrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02239857410831380959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665217779997647679.post-42250958396369447092018-03-20T23:07:00.004+01:002018-03-24T23:44:54.753+01:00New Drifter entities spotted!During a patrol on a Jove Observatory, pilot Aradina Varren noticed an unusual capsuleer ship wreck in Eystur. Concord had identified it as a Drifter ship kill, but it didn't match any known Drifter ship signatures.
This prompted Varren for a call out in the ARC comm channel to investigate the matter.

Various capsuleers responded to this call; Andrei Haiducul, Drake Wellington and Jandice Ymladris joined into the investigation. Arriving in the system, the unknown Drifter ship was seen flying alongside Autothysian Lancer drones at the local Jove Observatory, along with some wreckage from the unfortunate capsuleer amidst Autothysian Lancer wrecks

The strange Drifter ship, hoovering ominously in front of the damaged Jove Observatory

After observations, it was determined these were a new class of Drifters, smaller then their Battleships & fitted within the cruiser category. The Drifter flying it has been tagged 'Cassandra Tyrannos' a previously unseen Drifter pilot category.
The wreckage around the Observatory revealed that the new Drifter ship was part of the reinforcements called by the Autothysian Lancers when they are under attack
Inspecting the ship at close range showed its heavy armament, this is one ship you don't want to provoke without caution!
Do note that this ship carries the Lux Xiphos gun, a lighter version of the battleship-grade Lux Kontos turret.

Each light is a Lux Xiphos turret, quite the powerful array of weapons for a cruiser-class ship!

Once all observation were done, without provoking them, we took it a step further & scanned their ships with various modules. The cargo was a classic for Drifters around the Jove Observatory systems, carrying the Antikhytera element, Sleeper data libraries & Ancient Coordinate databases. The ship module scanner was unable to penetrate their shielding.

When they warped to the Hadaugago gate, these Drifters turned aggressive & shot two ships without provocation, the Breacher piloted by Jandice Ymladris, equipped with scanning modules & a Burst frigate, piloted by a new capsuleer.
The worrying part is that this attack happened very randomly, shooting random targets as well, leaving the other members of our investigation team alone. No cargo was present, save some rocket ammo on the Breacher.

So for future investigators: beware!

As closing words, this is the first time since long that a new Drifter ship has been sighted, along with a new Drifter entity to accompany it. The Drifter cruiser & it's pilot, Cassandra Tyrannos haven't been seen before today!
So far, they've only been spotted as reinforcements after Autothysian Lancer drones have been attacked. A follow up investigation in Kaunokka by Oliver Aurelius & Drake Wellington confirmed this to be the case, locating several Cassandra Tyrannos piloting Drifter cruisers at a Jove Observatory, following a lone Autothysian Lancer drone.

Update on the new Drifter Cruisers & their abilities

Since this publication, another Drifter entity has appeared that is very similar: Orion Tyrannos, the male variant of Cassandra Tyrannos. They seem to be similar in every way but their gender.
Thanks to combat testings of various pilots, more is known about their damage dealing capacities as well.
Just like the Drifter battleships, these cruisers field a Doomsday as well that fires when their blue overshield is penetrated.
But the similarity ends there, as the damage is much lower & not equal; the weapon deals roughly 42.000 damage, mainly in the EM/Kinetic spectrum, so shielding yourself against these damage types allows you to absorb most damage.
The Lux Xiphos guns deal roughly 700 damage per second combined. So far initial investigations seem to indicate this is still omni damage, but further investigations are ongoing to confirm this. What we do know is that their cruiser gun tracking is excellent, far above that of their battleships.

Both types of Drifter cruisers are now observed patrolling alongside Autothysian Lancer drones, protecting them. They are also the go-to ships that reinforce the Lancer drone patrols call for help when under attack.
This behaviour to defend the Lancers can explain why these Drifters are more prone to fire at capsuleer ships that haven't shot them.
This is still a rare occurrence, but it is advised not to linger when Drifter cruisers are abound to avoid an unwelcome shooting party.Jandice Ymladrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02239857410831380959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665217779997647679.post-89951855104960377332018-03-14T09:57:00.001+01:002018-03-26T11:28:36.460+02:00Multiple Drifter fleets sighted on a single day!

Prelude

After a silence of 3 weeks, the damaged Drifter fleets have returned. But this time, several capsuleers were ready to attempt opening communications one way or another with these damaged Drifters. It was paramount that more information was needed to determine why the Drifters visit our space with damaged fleets and if they are a direct threat.
Alas, the first sighted encounter showed competition had arrived and they would wreck Drifters for the sheer fun of it.

The Nourvukaiken sighting

The first Drifter fleet sighting happened in Caldari space, the Nourvukaiken system, composed of roughly 30 Drifter battleships. But before ARC could pick upon this sighting, a fleet under command of capsuleer Bjornson Thellere attacked the Drifters with a fleet of 50-60 capsuleers & destroyed them.
Their fleet doctrine was similar to ARC, using massed destroyers to engage the Drifter fleet. The difference was in the ships used. While ARC uses only the Coercer destroyer, Bjornson Thellere's fleet used a mix of Coercers, Trashers and Catalysts
After the fight, ARC managed to gleam some information from the capsuleers, revealing that the shield systems of these Drifters was not working!
But just like the previous fleet sightings, they just gave up fighting after suffering heavy losses
However, there wasn't much time to ponder over this sighting, as another Drifter fleet was spotted!

The Isanamo communication attempt

This second sighting was once again in Caldari space. The Drifters were gathered at the Sobaseki gate in the Isanamo system. While ARC prepared against them, science would be done this time, in an attempt to avoid combat.
Two capsuleers, Jandice Ymladris & Stig Elendil, attempted to get response from the Drifters by carrying a wide variety of goods related to the Drifters one way or another in an attempt to get a response, good or bad. Relics, artefacts & curious goods were jettisoned in an attempt to offer it to the Drifters & scientists observed the whole ordeal. A full list of the items used can be found here: Overview of the Drifter communication attempts.
But regrettably, no response came forth, outside their standard scan. It was observed that just like the previous sighting in Nourvukaiken, these Drifters had no shields & were damaged into structure by an unknown attacker.

Realizing their fleet had grown to 50 battleships, action had to be taken against the Drifters. The locals were getting concerned about this built up as well, requiring ARC personnel to calm them down, assuring these Drifters were no direct threat and that ARC would dispose of them soon.
Once ARC had gathered enough people and shipped them in their Coercer doctrine; the attack could begin.
Wave after wave of destroyers crashed against the Drifters, until they seem to give up at the 3rd attack wave, making it easy to dispose of the stragglers.
The lack of shielding helped greatly in keeping casualties down to a minimum.
But as the Drifter wrecks were salvaged, a strange item was uncovered, a Corrupted Trinary Vault! This was the first recorded retrieval of this strange artefact.
Yet once again, no time was left to mull on this discovery, as a new Drifter fleet was sighted during the Isanamo battle.

The Evuldgenzo encounter

This Drifter fleet was sighted by capsuleer Uhnboy Ghost of the Spectre community. The ARC fleet regrouped & set course for the Evuldgenzo system.
Meanwhile, Uhnboy Ghost & Stig Elendil attempted to communicate with them through various means, from projecting light beams to skimming real close to the damaged Drifter battleships. Alas, the result was the same as the Isanamo communication attempt: nothing, save their ever vigilant scanning.

Once the ARC fleet arrived, capsuleers readied themselves quickly to battle the Drifters once more. A quick count indicated roughly 40 battleships gathered around the Asgeir gate.
Under the experienced command of officer Makoto Priano, the fleet commenced their attack. this time, the Drifters gave up rather fast. In the second wave, they already gave up, resorting to minimal resistance as their fleet was cleared off the field.

With that awful task done, the Drifter & ARC wrecks were being salvaged for research & to recoup losses. Once again, a Corrupted Trinary vault was found among the Drifter wreckage.
With no further sightings; analysis of this strange artefact could begin.

Aftermath

So far, there have been 6 damaged Drifter fleet sightings outside Anoikis. 3 of these were in Caldari systems, all within 3 jumps from Jita: Sirppala, Nourvukaiken and Isanamo.
Two fleets were sighted in Minmatar space; Rens and Evuldgenzo. The last fleet was sighted in H-ADOC, home of the Angel Cartel.
Info on the other encounters can be found here:
Multiple Drifter fleets sighted - Large Drifter fleet sighted in Caldari space

The main difference between the old fleet sightings and those of today was their damaged state. The first fleets sighted were damaged heavily into structure but still had operational shields & Doomsday guns, while the Drifter fleets in today's encounter suffered less severe structural damage, but their shield systems & doomsday devices were offline, making it easier to destroy them with lower casualties.

But the main discovery was the retrieval of an unknown artifact, the Corrupted Trinary Vaults. These items were retrieved from each fleet sighted today (albeit the one retrieved at Nourvukaiken was only found out much later)
A quick analysis of the Vault artifact by ARC revealed a strange data sequence:

Released by ARC official Makoto Priano

What the strange triangular symbols mean is unclear at this time. More data is required before we can crack their code.
However; the video feed included does show a mysteriousobject:

Likely this is linked to the leaked Concord file from a few weeks before. Do note that current consensus is that the strange phenomenon in the leaked Concord file is not a star, but something else, as the scale doesn't fit. What it is is still a mystery. At this time not much more has been uncovered, but ARC officials & affiliated but they are hard at work trying to connect the data & finding out what is going on with these damaged Drifter fleets entering our space.
Aurora News will keep close track of this mysterious renewed Drifter activity.Jandice Ymladrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02239857410831380959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665217779997647679.post-44281644657893433502018-03-13T13:03:00.000+01:002018-03-17T04:03:24.037+01:00Drifters and Sisters of Eve continue to clash in capsuleer graduation systems

Investigating strange rescuees

It all began when capsuleer Yun-Hee 'Tight-Lips' Yubari informed the C3SRC (Coordination Channel for Consolidated Space Rescue Cooperation) that she had rescued some survivors.
These rescuees came from wrecks near the State War Academy in Kisogo. They were revealed to be scientists & personnel that were of extreme importance to the Sisters of Eve. The capsuleer also thought this was not a one-time occurance.

As part of C3SRC, Che Biko decided to investigate and his initial research supported Yubari's findings.
But it also revealed a darker truth, it was not limited to the Kisogo system, but these SoE scientists & personnel were being rescued in systems all over New Eden, usually from smaller wrecks. Alas, the culprits behind this odd attacks left no recognizing attack damage patterns. However
But during his investigation, Che Biko stumbled on some SoE survivors himself, allowing him to gain some first hand information from them.
Albeit the rescuees were in great distress, they did told him they were survivors of a Drifter attack, rescued by a capsuleer ship, who then got attacked by others, leaving them stranded again till Che Biko managed to rescued them.
With such turn of events it should come at no surprise that these people are very shaken up & were in no state to pressure for more information, save that they indeed worked for the Sisters of Eve.

Concerned about the wide spread of these attacks, Che Biko started to look into establishing a method on rescuing more survivors. The involvement of the Drifters also caused him to reach out to others to investigate the matter more deeply to find out what is happening here.
Aurora News took up his request & delved deeper into it.
One thing that immediately popped up was that the Aurora Arcology has received similar SoE survivors the past months, helping the investigation greatly.

These SoE survivors all came from capsuleer graduation systems, like Ryddinjorn, Couster, Akiainavas, Pasha and many more. Whatever is happening, it seems to occur at all capsuleer graduation systems.
The survivor stories all align pretty well too, they got rescued by a capsuleer after their ship or installation was attacked by Drifters, sometimes getting a double rescue as their original rescuer lost his ship before he got to safety.
What was less clear was the whole Drifter/SoE angle in all of this. But whatever was going on, it seemed not to involve the empires directly.
Originally our investigations couldn't reveal more then this, until the first damaged Drifter fleets were sighted. This caused all manner of discussions on the Intergalactic Summit and uncovered the background of these continuous Drifter aggression against SoE ships & installations in the Capsuleer Graduation systems.
Below you'll find the outcome of our investigation.

A history of the Drifters presence in the capsuleer graduation systems

It all began when the Sisters of Eve shared their Alpha clone technology with the empires, unlocking capsuleer technology for the masses. However, a splinter group within the Sisters of Eve warned against using it, as it was a result of research on Drifter clones & technology.

The Drifter response on the reveal of Alpha cloning technology: brutal and destructive

Image provided by ARC

And the Drifter response was indeed brutal and far-reaching. They commenced a large-scale attack against research facilities in the 4 empires. This Drifter assault was not limited to the capsuleer graduation systems, but involved many other high security systems across New Eden. The scale of the attack was unprecedented, leading to the destruction of many Navy capitals across the Big Four, showing they were unable to withstand the Drifter advanced technologies. To make matters worse, Drifters were establishing Hives close to the new Alpha Clone stations in the capsuleer graduation systems!
But the Navies regrouped after this initial attack & combined with capsuleer efforts pushed back against the Drifters & took out the newly established Drifter Hives.

The Caldari Navy preparing for the counter-offensive

Image provided by ARC

After this big clash, Drifter activity was reduced to the capsuleer graduation systems, where they continue to clash with the Sister of Eve organisation to this day among the wreckage sites of the initial Drifter attack, often involving the various Navies in these engagements.

The current situation in the graduation systems

Regularly the Sisters of Eve would contact newly graduated capsuleers to rescue their personnel after a Drifter attack and then proceed to direct the new capsuleer against the technologically superior Drifters. That's cold, a capsuleer, just graduated from the academy & with all his hopes, optimism and naivety gets recruited by the Sisters & thrown against the most advanced technological terror this galaxy has to offer. Cold.
Luckily, the newly graduated capsuleer isn't alone in this early adventure. The Navies, always willing to make a good first impression are there to assist them when things get rough.
Normally the military Navy bases are obscured from capsuleer view by CONCORD regulations. However, the military installation in the graduation system is an exception, due to the presence of the capsuleer academy and the continuous Drifter activity.
When the new capsuleer is tasked by the Sisters to take out a Drifter Hive, the Navies are all too eager to assist. Partly because Drifters establishing a foothold in known space is bad news, but also as an attempt to instill some loyalty into the capsuleer for their nation.

A newly established Drifter Hive in a capsuleer graduation system. Do note that these are much weaker then the ones found deep in Anoikis space. Likely these are the Drifter variant of the easily replaced Citadels that wealthy capsuleers can build

Image provided by Concord Communication Personnel

Conclusion of the investigation into the SoE rescuees

First things first, these Drifter/Sisters of Eve clashes have nothing to do with the recent damaged Drifter fleet sightings, as the clashes in the graduation systems have happened far before this & are more continuous, not to mention that the Drifter ships involved are not damaged. Also, Drifter/SoE clashes have been reported in wormholes as well, showing that these two have been fighting among each other for a while now.
Moreover, while it is easy to blame the Drifters as aggressors, it's important to note that their attacks are mainly focused on Sister of Eve ships & installations, likely in an attempt to disrupt the alpha cloning process which is a result of SoE research into Drifter clones.

To add to this, the Sisters recruit newly graduated capsuleers to respond to these Drifter attacks, capsuleers who are not yet jaded nor tainted by how harsh life is in the New Eden cluster, filled with misinformation and manipulation.
It's important to keep in mind that the Sisters pursue their own agenda in all of this, often hiding important information & operations from the public and even the Big Four. The best known example: the colonisation of the Thera wormhole system.
Important to note is that veteran capsuleers are not recruited in this fight against the Drifters despite that they are much better placed to fight them due to their skills & expertise. This is also why the continuous Drifter activity in the capsuleer graduation systems has gone largely under the radar as most older capsuleers generally don't pay much attention to what occurs in the capsuleer starting systems.

With this investigation concluded, the Aurora Arcology organisation would call out to all capsuleers to pay attention to wreckage found in the capsuleer graduation systems & inspect them for survivors and bring them to safety. Not only because it is the right thing to do, but also to prevent the Sisters from recruiting yet another newly graduated capsuleer for their covert motives.
Introduction

Last weekend, the Goonswarm Federation and associates once again launched a devastating assault on Jita, the capsuleer main trade hub in New Eden, under the name 'Burn Jita'. This is the 5th time in 7 years that Jita has been targeted by this powerful capsuleer alliance for an orgy of death & destruction.
But why would they do such thing? Simply, to display their power, to disrupt the trade and to show you are not safe from them anywhere, not even in the heart of CONCORD patrolled space.

Their primary targets in this destructive endeavor were mainly the transport ships, albeit smaller subgroups have been spotted to aim for different targets. Adding to this, they operated beyond the Jita system as well, joined by various associates, destroying ships along important shipping-lane systems, spreading the destruction & reach of this 'Burn Jita' ganking operation.

Operation 'Burn Jita' in effect, spanning 3 days

This apocalyptic operation lasted 3 days, from the 2nd of March till the 4th of March; with only a small forewarning.
One would think that this Goonswarm Federation attack on the heart of capsuleer economic might would disrupt trading fiercely, but this is not the case.
Due to the repeat nature of the event & knowing from past 'Burn Jita' and similar occurrences, smarter capsuleers knew what to expect & prepared accordingly, often shipping goods & ships in advance to the proper regions, ready to make the big isk when the destructive operation kicked off. And did it pay off? It sure did, many raked in billions as the less fortunate & the less prepared got caught in this depravity of chaos & mayhem.

Indeed, many still got caught in this orgy of wanton destruction, often losing expensive ships, cargo & even their implant capsules! Many freighters got demolished, but even the tankier Orcas couldn't escape destruction during this event.
And all that has to be replaced... All those ships destroyed, all that cargo gone, all those implants, they have to be replenished to keep the trade going and keep the economy pumping. And through this, the 'Burn Jita' operation fuels the economy in a dark way, allowing capsuleers to make large profits as people died en masse in fiery ship explosions.
So in the end, prepared traders profited off those who didn't prepare for the inevitable upcoming 'Burn Jita' mayhem.
The tools of destruction

But what kind of ships were used to cause all this chaos? Unsurprisingly, the mainstay of the ganker fleets were destroyers and attack battlecruisers as these dish out the biggest punch for the lowest cost, able to mount powerful weaponry on a comparable cheap platform.
The main ship used did cause some frowns among the capsuleer community, as the destroyer of choice was the Amarr designed Coercer and not the ganker's favorite, the Catalyst.
Below is a list of the most commonly used ganking ships during this operation along with a link to their standard 'Burn Jita' fits:

- The Coercer destroyer: The mainstay of the Burn Jita fleet, packing a cheap but powerful punch through lasers. If you check out the fit, you notice it has been kept economic, with cheap tech 1 modules; relying on quantity to blow up things, assuring anyone can fly these ships in a matter of days.
Do note that a select group of Coercers were better equipped, using tech 2 laserguns to wreck haulers, but these ships were a rare sight compared to the mass of cheap tech 1 fitted coercers laying waste to Jita shipping & the surrounding tradelane systems.

- The Talos attack battlecruisers: A powerful Gallente battlecruiser fielding destructive short range blasters, for when some extra punch was needed. Notice that these ships are much better equipped, fielding high quality tech 2 modules, giving them that more of a punch. Thereby these were reserved for the elite pilots who do have the necessary skills to fly these punchers.
This ship was less fielded, but still figured on many a killmail during the 'Burn Jita' operation.

- The Purifier stealthbomber: An odd choice for a ganker ship, yet featured in quite some killmails. The cost to operate these specialized ships compared to their damage output normally would make it an unpopular choice for ganking, as such ship would be lost to CONCORD after attacking single target. But this was no normal ganking operation!
These ships often managed to outdo the Coercers in damage when they were involved, showcasing that this choice wasn't so out of place after all.

- The Trasher destroyer: This ship was far less used by the main 'Burn Jita' force, but it was a favorite of a smaller offshoot fleet, focusing on targeting smaller ships & capsules to blow up.
It still used cheap modules to take down targets, keeping down costs, outside the high quality ammo that is used. Yet the limited ammo requirement still meant that costs were kept in check.

The above 4 ships were most commonly used during the operation, but a few more ships have been employed as well, just in much smaller numbers & hence unsure if their fits follow a set standard:

The Catalyst destroyer: The gankers favorite ship, it is cheap and packs a powerful punch with its blasters. Yet it was severely under-represented during 'Burn Jita'.
However, the few that did fly were equipped with quality tech 2 modules, giving them that extra punch when dishing out the pain.

The Hound stealthbomber: Less used then the Purifier, but it does dish out a good punch as well. Still an out of place choice for a ganking ship, but it served the role nonetheless, being involved in the destruction of many freighters and other large hauler ships.

The outliers fielding out of place ships for wanton destruction

During the 'Burn Jita' mayhem, there were a few capsuleers & ships that stood out in their ganking operations.
Either they were the only ones fielding the ship, or the ships they fielded were very expensive, making it more a showcase of their financial wealth if they could use such high value ships so carelessly.
Below a short list of the outliers I was able to spot, along with a short explanation:

- Terathree Hanaya: Stood out during 'Burn Jita' by his repeat use of the Oracle attack battlecruiser. While this ship has powerful offensive weaponry, the attack battlecruiser of choice during this operation was the above-mentioned Talos.
Yet, this capsuleer preferred the Oracle & knew how to field it as he topped the damage list of many killmails with it. This was surely helped by the usage of tech 2 modules, giving it a powerful offensive boost.

- Emissio Lacrimare: This capsuleer was reported to field an expensive Vindicator battleship to blow up a Fenrir freighter. The usage of such ship goes beyond simple ganking and is more a statement.
The statement being that Goonswarm has money to burn & isn't afraid of throwing away expensive equipment & ships for their operations.

- Jay Amazingness: He took it up a notch by sacrificing a Barghest first to destroy an Orca hauler and then a Machariel to blow up a Charon freighter in the massacre that was 'Burn Jita'.
Clearly, they got money to burn if they can do this! Not to mention that it is a display of their wealth and a warning to their foes, showcasing that they can use ships like this in a suicide manner & not feel it in their wallet.

-Aryth: This man operates on a whole different league then the above mentioned capsuleers. Why is that? Because this man solely used Vindicator battleships during 'Burn Jita'! Yes, this man fulfills the stereotype of the wickedly wealthy and evil capsuleer, throwing away lives & wealth simply because he can.
At least a dozen of his Vindicator battleships were destroyed by CONCORD as he wrecked freighter after freighter with these ships, along with his allies.
Yet to be able to do that is a display of both the enormous wealth this man possesses and his total disregard for human life, not only for his targets, but also his own crew. A true capsuleer, fitting the stereotype of the dark demi-gods, wielding the wealth of nations for their personal pleasure.

A Mammoth hauler is desperately trying to warp out, while the Orca is less lucky, succumbing to a 'Burn Jita' fleet with a CONCORD fleet on their tail.

The aftermath

While this whole 'Burn Jita' operation caused destruction on a large scale, with losses running into trillions, the Jita market recovered rather fast.
The main reason for this is the huge trade volume, Jita alone outmatches the entire cluster combined in trade, hence putting a lasting dent in it is extremely hard.

Yet, 'Burn Jita' did dent the trading for a few days, showcasing how massive this operation was. To add to this scale, over 50.000 Coercers were used to wreck havoc in Jita and the surrounding tradelane systems.
CONCORD penalty system was unable to control such agressive large scale capsuleer activity, as it is based on penalizing security status & bringing retribution on offenders. This bears stressing: CONCORD does not protect you, CONCORD punishes your attacker if he had an unjust cause.
Above is also why anti-ganking is hard, as CONCORD will intervene if you shoot a ganker before he fired (unless his security status is low enough)
Yet some still went out & did their best, most notably among them was the SPECTRE community, who leaves no opportunity to wreck other capsuleers untouched.
Pandemic Legion also operated a small but effective anti-gank force in the Jita system.
However it is hard to determine how effective it was in protecting the haulers due to how CONCORD law operates.

The wreckage of an Obelisk slowly drifting through space as CONCORD rushes in to penalize this breach of law. But yet again, too late to save the freighter.

Prelude

The Glitter and Gloom celebration is a costumed party hosted by capsuleer Lasairiona Raske, allowing capsuleers with widely different backgrounds to mingle in an enjoyable setting, away from our usual comm channels.
The L'Amore venue itself is located in the Kasrasi system, at the Trust Partners trade post.

To add to this, prizes would also be handed out to the most creative designs, making sure there would always be something to talk about, assuring that socializing with others would be easy & that there would always be something or someone to talk about!
The prizes themselves were kindly donated by the ARC capsuleer organisation, with an extra isk prize for the main winner, donated by capsuleer Nomistrav

The 3 prize Eros ship skins, fitting for the L'Amore establishment, provided by ARC

You can read the announcement made by Lasairiona Raske here: Glitter and Gloom costumed party at L'Amore
The notion of 'no nudity, including no bodypaint or loincloth' might sound silly to the average person, but I assure you, the addition of this rule is a necessity when dealing with capsuleers...
Do note that due to the often troublesome reputation of capsuleers, Miss Raske not only hired top of the line discrete security, but also held the last word on attendance, barring troublesome capsuleers from participating when required.
This was to assure minimal disruption at the event itself and to make sure everyone would have a good time.

The Glitter and Gloom party

The costumed party itself was a major success, not only did the place itself fit the theme, even the drinks joined the Glitter and Gloom theme!
Many capsuleers attended the event, each of them adhering to the theme. Some worn brilliant white glittering dresses, others went for a more gloomy approach and the bravest of them combined the two parts of the theme in one brilliant costumed dress! Not to mention the sounds & light effects on some of these truly wonderful costumes!
One popular sub-theme for the gloom approach were the Drifters, due to their designs fitting it so well.

Capsuleers had a good time, chatting & talking about past events and getting to know each other better beyond the limits of the comm-channels. The buffet & themed drinks were a big hit as well, as many tied them out & enjoyed it.
The various often extravagant outfits served as an excellent opening to get to socialize with others, giving people common themes to discuss.

The costumes itself were beautifully designed and served to elevate the enjoyment of the event, with many capsuleers going all out on their designs. Not to mentioned the classic on these costumed parties, the guy/gal entering the venue with a costume shining so brilliant that sunglasses or other light-dampening equipment was needed simply to look at it.
At this party, our brilliant party sun was capsuleer Che Biko wearing a nanoLED suit on full bright setting. And this is why I always carry sunglasses when attending these costumed parties!

As the evening progressed, it became time for the costume competition prizes. The first 3 prizes would be handed out by popular vote, with a 4th prize handed out by the host of the evening, Lady Lasairiona Raske herself.
To assure a fair competition, voting was anonymous & a list of the competitors was published, so people could admire these outfits & costumes in more detail. Do note that due to the creative designs & wonderful effects by many, it was hard to vote for just one, but choose we all had to! A hard task I assure you.
The Glitter and Gloom prize winners

Once the admiring & comparing of the amazing outfits was done & the voting over, it was time to announce the prize winners!
Announced by Lasairiona Raske on stage, these were the winners:

Third place: Kalaratiri, wearing one of the few colourful glittery dresses, mimicking a star-filled nebula, thereby catching people's eyes!
Her prize was: 100 million isk + a Dramiel frigate with fitting Eros skin + 500 Eros firework charges

Second place; Hespyr Abenai, who combined both themes into one brilliant outfit, wearing a silvery grey glittering dress over her vantablack modified skin, with a halo-like glow effect for her hair, making her one great eye-catcher!
Her prize was: 100 million isk + A Cynabal cruiser with accompanying Eros skin + 1000 Eros firework charges

First place: Mizhir, with her amazing Drifter outfit. One could easily mistake her for a true Tyrannos pilot at first glance!
She won the main prize, consisting of: 200 million isk + a Machariel battleship with the appropriate Eros skin + 1500 Eros firework changes.

Handed out last was the host prize of 50 million isk, awarded to Aria Jenneth, for her marvelous outfit, changing colours depending on the light. From a matte black in low light to a beautiful subtle spectacle of colours under bright light as it's made out of thousands of rainbow obsidian beads to create this effect.

After each announcement, the crowd broke out in applause, celebrating the winners. But as said, the competition was tough and many had stellar outfits, but alas only 4 could win a prize in this close contest

Closing words

All in all, I had a great time at the event & enjoyed getting in touch with several capsuleers. Not to mention getting to know some of the new faces that appeared on the IGS scene during my absence in the capsuleer community.
Also a major thanks to Lasairiona Raske for hosting this beautiful event, with a discrete but efficient security, preventing any major issues and showcasing one can have a good time without someone disrupting the event.
The attending capsuleers contributed to the success as they all joined the theme, sometimes with very extravagant designs but all of them wonderfully made!

A big thanks once again to the host & attending capsuleers for making this an enjoyable & successful event!Jandice Ymladrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02239857410831380959noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665217779997647679.post-33482342921574446712018-03-02T01:46:00.002+01:002018-03-02T22:00:37.045+01:00Keeping a Fedo as pet

Prelude

A few years ago, a new pet hype swept across the cluster, involving keeping fedos as pets. Prior to this, they were mainly used by a minority of the Minmatar & Amarr pilots to keep their ships clean & used in Gallente space in fedo-fighting circuits.
But during the hype, fedo popularity skyrocketed & almost any capsuleer who wanted to be hip, wanted one.
But alas, just as soon, the hype was over once people realized keeping fedos as pets isn't easy & required a high grade of dedication.

Fedos digest food by fermenting (rotting) biomass & hence can leave very strong & unpleasant odours. On top of this, female fedos exhale fumes that can be irritating to even toxic to people.
Not to mention that fedos, due to their short-lives state can breed very fast after being born, usually within 24 hours, on which they also show their fist sign of gender.
To complicate matters, fedos are very resilient creatures, able to survive the vacuum of space for hours if need be, making it very hard to get rid of them if their breeding is not kept in check.
If you like to know more about fedos in general, Aurora News published about them earlier: The fedo, a strange animal

Keeping fedos as pets: guidelines

The first thing any fedo handler needs to know is that fedos are rather high maintenance to keep as household pets.

Keeping them as cleaner & disinfectant for your ships & starbases is a far easier task as long as you can control the population. But when one likes to keep them as pets, it gets alot more complicated, due to their odd nature.

First & foremost, only males are suitable as household pets, simply because they do not exhale poisonous fumes.

It also simplifies matter on population control, as males cannot get pregnant.

However, they still spread very strong & unpleasant odours when you do not control their diet. Thanks to the capsuleer fedo hype a few years back, a line of suitable fedo food has been developed, cutting back on their smell. just keep in mind that this specialized food line can be pricey compared to normal food, but it is worth the extra prize to subdue the otherwise horrendous smell fedos exhale as they digest their food.

Regarding environment, fedos are content with a wide array of climates & places, as they are a very resilient & sturdy creatures.

Still, their favorite habitat are enclosed spaces, mimicking their original cave habitat on Palpis VI. This is likely the reason they thrive on ships as they mimic caves in a way for the fedo, as these creatures are blind & deaf, relying on other sensory organs to observe their surroundings& move around.

Aww look at it, offering his ball to play with you!

When keeping a single fedo, be aware that you have to spend time with them, as they tend to be social creatures & a lone fedo is a sad fedo. Don't let them be sad! They enjoy playing with balls, so that's an easy way to spend some quality time with them, making sure your fedo is a happy fedo!

You can also keep multiple fedos, making it much easier to keep them content as they can play among themselves. However adding some toys like playballs sure will enhance their life quality & make them happier.

Regarding females, they are best not held as household pets, due to two reasons: One; the aforementioned toxic gases they exhale, which can irritate your skin severely. And two, their rapid reproduction cycle, namely that they are capable of breeding after just 24 hours, complicated by the matter that the first 24 hours male & female fedos look identical.

Due to this, newly born fedos are best kept separated before they can breed, so one can identify their gender & split up the males & females.

Hence female fedos are best kept under the care of professional fedo handlers & not held as household pets.

Conclusion

For those who would like to have a fedo as pet, hopefully this guide will be able to help out. And if it discourages some as fedos are not that easy to keep as household pets, then that's fine too.

If you feel you are unable to take continued care of your fedo, the Aurora Arcology project can take them in for you, assuring your fedo has a good home with plenty of companions to play & interact with!

First sighting

After a week of silence, the Drifters have returned with a large fleet in the Sirppala system. They were originally sighted by the Spectre Fleet community. This info was quickly relayed to ARC, allowing them to quickly sent out observers to gather information & formulate an appropriate tactic to counter them.

Drifter fleet scanning the Urlen gate in Sirppala

As with last week sightings, the Drifters were all damaged heavily, without a clue to who or what did this. No major aggression either, outside the few clueless capsuleers who attacked them & got quickly disposed of by the Drifters.
However these rogue attacks caused the Drifters to call in two waves to reinforce them, swelling their numbers to 51 Drifter battleships, a potentially high risk in high security systems.

This also complicated matters for ARC & their allies, as such a large Drifter fleet needed a good coordination & numbers to be able to take them down.
The ARC officials decided on a similar approach as in the Rens confrontation last week, namely fight them with waves of cheap & disposable high damage ships. They just had to gather the numbers.

A Charon freighter fleet being scanned by the Drifter fleet as they pass through.

But time worked against them, as the Urlen gate in the Sirppala system is an important link between the Jita-Amarr trade route & the major Drifter presence caused alot of concern for the passing traffic. That the Drifters sometimes destroyed a ship did not help to calm matters. Usually it was a rogue attack by a lone capsuleer. But transports hauling corpses were under threat of Drifter attack as well.
One spectacular incident with an Orca showed this. As the ship arrived, it suddenly got focused by the Drifter fleet & subsequently exploded it a massive bright lightflash.
After inspecting the cargo, it turned out the Orca was hauling a large load of capsuleer corpses for reasons unknown.
It's known for a while now that Drifters have an unusual interest in capsuleer corpses, gathering them when they can & actively attacking those who transport such corpses.

The attack on the Drifter fleet

Once ARC officials gathered enough capsuleers, they went over the tactics once last time as people boarded the ARC provided Coercer destroyers. While fragile, these ships can dish out a good punch compared to their cost & the Drifter weapons render all but the most formidable defenses useless.
Under ARC official Makoto Priano, the capsuleer fleet gathered outside the station before they warped in as one to launch the first strike on the Drifters.

And so it begins, the Coercer fleet commences its attack run on the Drifter battleships

The first strike took down a few Drifter battleships before they got obliterated. But capsuleers are stubborn & do not fear death, allowing them to regroup quickly at the station, reform the fleet with new Coercers & warp in as one, to take on the Drifters once more..
Once more the Drifters burned the capsuleers off the battlefield, but the capsuleers just regrouped, boarded new ARC provided Coercers & kept going, wave after wave, each time taking down more Drifter battleships.

And then, at the 4th attack wave, the Drifters just ceased firing, allowing the capsuleer fleet to remove the remaining battleships rapidly from Caldari space with minimal ship losses.
The fleet remained in position for a while, on alert for possible reinforcements, but they did not arrive.
In the end, roughly 100 Coercers were destroyed in favour of 51 Drifter battleships, a very good tradeoff, showing the improvement the ARC organisation made in their Coercer doctrine after the Rens encounter.
Thanks to the effort of ARC & allies, Caldari space and the Amarr-Jita trade route was once more secure from potential Drifter threats.

Aftermath

Several observations made during this encounter matched what occurred at Rens last week.

- The Drifters called two waves of reinforcements after they got attacked. At Rens this happened after the ARC fleet attacked them, causing them to fight two waves of Drifters.
At Sirppala, rogue attacks by lone capsuleers caused these reinforcements to appear long before ARC had gathered enough capsuleers to strike at them, forcing a battle against 51 Drifter battleships, a formidable force.

- They ceased defending themselves after a while. This occurred at Rens & occurred again at Sirppala. After they lost a considerable number of their fleet, the Drifters just ceased defending themselves, allowing the capsuleer fleet to defeat them easily from this point onward, saving the few shots fired by their doomsday weapons.

- They all were damaged heavily, their armor gone & their structural integrity heavily compromised by unknown events. So far we still don't have a clue what happened to these Drifter fleets & why they venture in our space.

A damaged Drifter battleship encountered in Sirppala

- They were scanning the system gates. In Sirppala, they first scanned the Inaro gate, but then moved to the Urlen gate & stayed there for the duration of the encounter, intensely scanning the gate & all the passing traffic for reasons unknown.

To this day, we do not know why the Drifters leave wormhole space to scan gates in our space, nor why they do it in their heavily damaged state.
While it's unlikely that they prepare for a large scale conflict this time, we cannot be cautious enough, requiring us to fight these Drifter concentrations, as we cannot risk a second Drifter / Amarr conflict or anything similar.

Rest assured that Aurora News will share any reveals of this mysterious behaviour as soon as we can; to put to rest any speculations that could arise!Jandice Ymladrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02239857410831380959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665217779997647679.post-53532332217623022322018-02-22T19:01:00.002+01:002018-03-26T10:15:53.725+02:00Multiple Drifter fleets sighted

Introduction

Drifters usually patrol Anoikis (Wormhole system space) and the New Eden cluster in small groups, guarding various sites or pursuing various (unknown) objectives. Normally they never group up in fleets.
The one period they gathered in fleets began shortly after we received the Hilen Tukoss Broadcast in early YC 117, where Drifter fleet sightings became more & more common, leading to various incidents & even outright attacks on various facilities & culminated in the assassination of Empress Jamyl Sarum I by a massive Drifter force. This lead to the Amarr-Drifter war & during the rest of YC 117 & early YC 118, these two powers clashed until the Drifters withdrawn their fleets.
And then it stopped for years, with the Drifters ceasing their fleet formation & their aggressive behaviour towards the Amarr Empire.

Due to the above, these recent Drifter fleet sightings are concerning, as the only major precedent we have on Drifter fleets ended in focused aggression against the Amarr.

The first fleet sighting: The Anoikis encounter

Last Saturday, an ARC patrol fleet stumbled on a Drifter fleet during a routine inspection of the Redoubt Hive complex in the J174618 wormhole system. Before they could withdraw, the 25 Vigilant Tyrannos battleships focused fire on them, instantly destroying a patrol ship. Leaving no chance for the capsuleer to flee, they crack his pod & harvest his corpse, a standard Drifter action.

As ARC regrouped, they noticed these Drifter ships were heavily damaged, only able to stay in the fight thanks to their advanced shield technologies.
However, despite the presence of this powerful fleet, ARC managed to complete their main objective & took out the Hikanta Tyrannos who resided within the Hive Complex.

Unable to take on the main force with their patrol fleet, plans were made to return with a fleet capable of bringing them down. But then another fleet was sighted...

The second fleet sighting: the Curse massacre

Only a day after the Anoikis encounter, another Drifter fleet was sighted, this time in the fringes of known space, in the H-ADOC system, situated in Curse.
They were spotted around a Triumvirate staging point, collecting corpses. Also observed were the similarities with the Anoikis Drifter fleet, 25 Drifter battleships, many of them heavily damaged.
Two of the resident capsuleer organisations (Triumvirate [TRI] and League of Svelte Men [SVELT]) decided to rally a fleet to engage the Drifters & drive them out.
As the capsuleer forces gathered, they noticed the Drifters had a particular interest in the gate leading to the S-E6ES system, scanning it numerous times, sometimes even gathering their fleet to do it.
Unlike the Anoikis fleet, this one did not engage capsuleer actively, unless fired upon, which is the standard Drifter combat protocol in known space.

Damaged Drifter sighted in Curse

Once the capsuleer fleet was ready, they proceeded to engage this strong but damaged force. First fleet to engage were the SVELT stealthbombers, who performed several bombing runs on the Drifter taskforce.
These bombing runs demolished the majority of the Drifters with practically no resistance from them, showcasing their unfamiliarity with this capsuleer tactic.
The few remaining Drifters were destroyed by the TRI fighters, cleaning up the field.
The quick demise of the Drifter fleet was a strong showcase of capsuleer power, sending them a strong message should they ever come back.

The third fleet sighting: the Rens incident

And yet, the Drifters returned not a day later, this time in Rens, one of the main trade hubs in Minmatar space. And not only this, they arrived in greater number as well. But just as previous encounters in our space, they took an immediate interest in one of the gates, focusing their scans on it.
As Rens is a busy system, their appearance quickly became known across the cluster & a capsuleer task force was quickly gathered.
As the system lies in high sec, standard fleet tactics could not be used to engage such Drifter numbers, but quickly the decision was made to use large numbers of destroyers to engage them, as they combine firepower, mobility & low cost in one fine package.

Despite the Drifter stance of not attacking unless provoked in known space, the decision to engage them was nonetheless made, as fleets of powerful battleships in foreign space are rarely a good thing. Not to mention that the last time Drifters appeared in fleets, it culminated in the Drifter-Amarr war and hardly anyone is looking for a repeat of that in their space.

Thanks to the large Destroyer task force, the damaged Drifter battleships were unable to overcome the combination of firepower & numbers, leading to their destruction.
But just as the capsuleer force thought it was over, another smaller Drifter fleet warped in.
Wasting little time, the capsuleers regrouped & took on the newcomers as well with their destroyer fleet.
In the end, 44 Drifter battleships were taken down at the cost of over a hundred destroyers, a high cost, showcasing how powerful the Drifter fleets are even in their damaged state.

Epilogue: What is going on?

So what is happening? Is there cause for concern? In my opinion, there is no cause for concern yet, but we do have to stay vigilant & keep close track of any unusual Drifter activity.
After all, the last time Drifter fleets appeared, they became more & more numerous over time, resulting in the Amarr-Drifter conflict.
Ever since the Drifters withdrew from that conflict, no Drifter fleets have been sighted. Until now.

The Discourse report on the 3 Drifter fleet encounters

However, these Drifter fleets all show signs of heavy damage, so whatever is ongoing, it is likely they venture in our space for something different now.
The two fleets in our space have shown great interest in our gates, scanning them intensely for reasons unknown.
It is likely connected to the mysterious Concord Drifter footage that was leaked recently, as explained by ARC personnel in this Discourse report:

Discourse report on the leaked Concord footage & how it could relate to the damaged Drifter fleets

The file is from a Concord subsection involved in monitoring Drifter activity. While unclear, it seems to show an ongoing but unknown stellar event (Edit: further analysis have shown this not to be true, what is shown instead is still unknown). However it is likely linked to the Drifter fleets one way or another due to the timing of the release of this file & the appearance of the damaged Drifter ships. More details are missing & analysis on the footage is still ongoing by ARC personnel.
It is hoped that soon we will know more of what befell the Drifter fleets & why they got a renewed interest in our space & our gate network.

Of known non-capsuleer organisations that could damage the Drifters and force them out in a damaged state, there's 3 main suspects: Note, these are speculations! We have no information at this time to indicate they are involved.

Sansha's Nation: While they used to have a strong wormhole system presence, not much of it is left, so an unlikely culprit, unless the rumours of a secret Sansha stronghold in an undiscovered wormhole system would turn true after all.

Sisters of EvE: With the Thera system colonisation, the Sisters have shown to be capable of launching large scale secret operations in wormhole space. Perhaps the damaged Drifter fleets are the result of yet another of their secret operations?

Amarr Empire: While the Amarr have no presence in wormhole systems, they cannot be discounted, due to the hostile focus their empire received when the Drifters appeared in large numbers for the first time.
Undoubtedly, the Amarr never forgot not forgave the Drifters for their transgressions & have been trying to find ways to hit back at the Drifters in their own space.
Perhaps they succeeded one way or another & struck a blow against them.

Hopefully time will tell what actually happened with the Drifters. But whatever the answer might be, it likely lies in AnoikisJandice Ymladrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02239857410831380959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665217779997647679.post-55589726716039071442018-02-18T19:14:00.001+01:002018-02-19T16:01:20.891+01:00The Isseras ghost shipFor several days, a Megathron battleship appeared on the scanners of many visitors of the Isseras system. At first, they thought nothing of it, probably yet another dedicated capsuleer running a string of assignments for the Caldari megacorporations or their subsidiaries.
But as days passed, its persistency on the scanners made people wonder what it was doing, as it was always there, lurking, watching for days, without docking.

Until curiosity got the better of one capsuleer & decided to investigate this strange Megathron. After a fruitless search at various capsuleer structures, it made the mystery only larger as it hinted that this large ship was floating alone through deep space, unmanned...
Considering that a Megathron battleship is a large investment for many capsuleers & for non-capsuleer organisations, leaving such prize unattended warranted further investigations.

Capsuleer Aradina Varren managed to pinpoint the strange Megathron's location & warped to it to investigate closer.
As she inspected the drifting Megathron, she found no signs of damage, yet the ship was clearly adrift. A true ghost ship, floating abandoned across the system.
In an attempt to unveil the mystery, she boarded it, hoping to find a clue on what befell this battleship & the crew.
Inspecting the equipment on board, it unveiled a part of the mystery. Its fittings indicated that the ship was used to close wormholes, securing the wormhole system from unwanted visitors.

But why was it left there? We might never know for sure. The most logical conclusion is that the pilot made an error as he rolled to close the wormhole link, stranding him on the wrong side.
But why abandon it there, in deep space, while there are stations present in the system? In a high security area nonetheless?

Whatever transpired, the pilot & crew left their ship, never to return, their fate unknown, leaving a large capable warship adrift in deep space.
The main ones were:

1) The perceived increasing outside threat posed by the Drifters, who have a constant presence in the Arcology homesystem Irjunen.

Current status:
The Drifters are under constant observation by Aurora surveillance teams & have been deemed a non-immediate threat. However we maintain high caution with them. Any pilot or capsuleer who does deals with us is explicitly advised against acting aggressive in any way or form towards the Irjunen Drifters & Seekers, in order not to attract their attention.
As a result, the immigration restrictions have been lifted, reopening the full capacity of the Aurora Arcology project to refugees across the cluster.

2) The rapid growth of the Aurora Arcology population, causing a large variety of issues, from services being inadequate for the larger population, to increased tension between groups due to cultural misudnerstandings.

Current status:
Pieter Tuulinen's advice has been a great asset on the security side of things, professionalizing the Aurora Law Enforcement groups, assuring the safety of Arcology citizens against inside & outside threats.
Thanks to this, the growth of the Aurora population did not strain our law enforcement departement.

A reorganization of the Arcology services & structures has also been successful, as a large population has different needs & priorities then a smaller one, not to mention the scale differences in required supplies & all the issues that came with it.
After all, a city of over a million long time refugees is run differently then a refugee camp housing thousands

To address the cultural differences between the variety of refugee groups, a mandatory cultural understanding course has been set up for all future refugees, along with an accompanying book to improve people's knowledge of alien cultures & why some practices are taboo & others are sensitive to certain groups (from: 'Why Slavery is not tolerated' to 'The importance of tattoos for Matari' etc).
It's been observed that even a basic understanding helps greatly in getting people to get along on a larger scale.

In short: the situation is stable now & can handle a rising number of refugees more efficiently.

3) Enhanced pirate forces and their presence

Current status: Still ongoing. Pirate fleet strengths have been on the rise the past few years, making them much bolder in their engagements.
Luckily, the Irjunen system is a small capsuleer hub and through this, pirate levels are generally on an acceptable level thanks to capsuleer actions.
While they mainly run various errands & assignments for the various megacorporations settled in the system, the result is still the same, we all profit from a safer system under capsuleer actions.

4) Shifting of priorities caused Aurora News to cease publications, due to lack of resources.

Current status: As the Aurora Arcology is stable, funds have been allocated once more to Aurora News, allowing publications to resume under a new light.

As the main issues have been addressed & contained, Aurora News can now relaunch. However, as I have been out the loop for a long time, our main focus will be small news articles, as more info will be gathered on larger issues & how they are seen among the rgeater capsuleer population.

Our stance on bringing news remains unchanged; providing honest news with integrity & respect.

Jandice Ymladrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02239857410831380959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665217779997647679.post-74897794673140168212016-05-06T22:30:00.002+02:002016-05-06T22:30:50.234+02:00Over 60.000 immigrants joined the Aurora ArcologyAn update after the long silence. Due to the fast growth of the refugee population & the rising threat of the Drifters about a year ago, I had decided to dedicate myself to the management of the Aurora Arcology. This in turn also meant the stop of Aurora News publications.
For the time being, Aurora News won't make it's full return, mainly staying focused on updates on the Arcology project & occasionally bringing a different article, likely around the history of New Eden & capsuleers.

Over the silent year, the Aurora Arcology continued to accept new refugees. Thanks to the many capsuleers who continue to support us, the growth has been steady and more & more people have been given a new chance in life.

On top of this, we also received a large variety of artifacts for study and display. Gifts like these are an important part of maintaining the cultural link with home, but also to give an insight into different cultures, good & bad.
In order to give these relics the proper attention, the museum has been expanded, both the display section as its archaeological division.
The artifacts we received are varied: Minmatar statues, old Amarr texts, Talocan machinery, Takmahl art, mysterious devices of unknown civilizations and Capsuleer relics of important events.
Displaying these at the museum will go a long way to help people improve their understanding of the various civilizations & groups in New Eden across history & space and ultimately improve their understanding of cultures other then theirs.
Prelude

Following the death of Empress Jamyl Sarum I and the announcement of the Succession Trials, Court Chamberlain Pomik Haromi met with the Ministry of War & the Grand Admirals for a proper course of action regarding the Drifter threat.
Initially, the Amarr Empire has been put in a high state of alert, but a more direct answer was needed to comfort the population of the Empire. And this answer came after a few days, where the Grand Admiral Kezti Sundara explained the Drifter threat to the Theology Council & the Privy Council.

The inevitable conclusion

As of 25 August, YC 117 at 11H, the Amarr Empire is officially at war with the Drifters. A general mobilization is in progress. A fortification of the Throne World fleets is underway, along with the reinforcement of the border systems to prevent opportunistic attacks from others.
Also, the Imperial Navy has begun cleansing the Drifters from the core world systems. Imperial forces have also entered the contested Devoid region, reinforcing the area & actively engaging Drifters.
This intervention in Devoid will surely be ill-received by the Minmatar Republic, but for now, there have been no official statements from their diplomats.

For the official document go here:
'For immediate public dissemniation; Declaration of war by the Amarr Empire towards the Drifters'

Khanid Kingdom under attack!

The Drifter response didn't wait for long. Only a few hours after the declaration of way, they begun their attack on the lowsec system Nandeza in the Khanid Kingdom. As the Imperial Navy was mainly securing it's own space in the Amarr Empire, this gave the Drifters the initial advantage, allowing them to rapidly setup a few strongholds & strikepoints!
However, the response of the Imperial Navy wouldn't take long and they send in their forces to assist the Khanid Kingdom to battle this threat.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Internal Order has geared its propaganda into action, calling the people of Amarr to pray for the righteous defenders of the Throne Worlds. On top of this, the Drifters are portrayed as the harbingers of unimaginable evil to strike an iron resolve in the people to defy them.

All shall fall in our wake

In response to the Amarr declaration of war and the invasion of the Drifters into the Khanid Kingdom, capsuleers set out to attack this foe.
But when they arrived, they were met with a discouraging sight... the wreckage of countless Navy ships floating across space.... Sometimes a flash of light was seen when a straggler launched a final desperate attack on the Drifter battleships, only to be erased by their superior weaponry...
The first capsuleers that attacked didn't do much but to follow the fate of the Navy ships...

But capsuleers are nothing of resourceful in the field of battle. Both Arek'Jaalan and Spectre Fleet took the forefront this conflict. While Arek'Jaalan send in small forces to analyze their tactics & devise strategies to combat it, Spectre Fleet went full in, launching devastating attacks on the Drifters. While they were often pushed back, they managed to diminish several Drifter task forces in the area.
While all this fighting is going on, capsuleer The Golden serpent tried a more peaceful route after the Drifters destroyed her ship. She remained in the area with her pod, seemingly ignored by the Drifters and began recording what she saw, gathering & releasing all the info, for a better understanding of this rising threat. You can find her observations here: 'Report on the trip to Baratar system, Khanid; Drifter incursion'

Despite all these actions, it isn't enough to drive out these invaders. There's been reports that the Drifters intend to expand their area of influence to other places once they have consolidated this area.
Considering the Drifters have begun their attack in lowsec, it complicates matters, as there's always capsuleers that prefer to engage their own kind instead of facing an invading force, making it all that more difficult to drive them out.
If this continues, the future looks grim for this area of the Khanid Kingdom... We have no idea what the Drifters will do once they solidly control an area of space... But an invading entity rarely has good intentions for their enemies.

The silence of Concord

In all the recent Drifter related conflicts, Concord has been eerily silent since the attack on the Yulai HQ by a small drifter taskforce. In previous rising threats, Concord at least provided some intel or made some public announcement regarding it.
While Concord's main goal is to provide peace between the 4 nations & keep a leash on capsuleers, the stability of the cluster as a whole should be a concern of theirs. Drifters snooping around everywhere with advanced tech & engaging anyone who comes too close is surely a worrying matter, not only for Amarr but for the whole of the New Eden cluster.
Hopefully we'll hear news from Concord soon regarding the Drifters.Jandice Ymladrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02239857410831380959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665217779997647679.post-72031233271298047472015-08-24T21:43:00.002+02:002015-08-24T21:45:25.034+02:0013th Alliance Tournament second weekend results

Second weekend, the teams that made it!

Well, this weekend has been a slaughterhouse, with many teams that got eliminated from the tournament! 4 teams remain undefeated, while 12 teams are still competing in the Elimination part!

Undefeated Teams

Camel Empire ----- Warlords of the Deep

Nulli Secunda ---- Pandemic legion

Among the undefeated teams there's no major surprise, these 4 teams are the big game contenders and always end up high in the Alliance Tournaments! Nice to note is that the Warlords of the Deep is the old Hydra team. In the final weekend these teams will fight 3 matches to determine who can go to the finals!

Triumvirate.

These will be some tense matches, as the teams here must win to continue! No third chance for them! Most teams here are of little surprise, as they tend to get far in previous AllianceTournaments as well. Also a few new names who managed to get this far! Lets see if they can win against established teams!
In this light, the Phoebe Freeport Republic match against Hard Knock Citizens will be especially curious as both are new teams competing in the Tournament!

All in all, the Finals weekend will hopefully be filled with thrilling battles where teams do their best to outmatch the opponent & provide ambiance for their spectators & fans!

Some observations of the Tournament

ECM galore!

In these two weekends, there's been complains about the large use of ECM in this tournament, reducing some matches to the luck of a draw, whether a jam would work or not.
This abundance of ECM can be attributed to various factors.

1) ECM is very effective in small scale engagements, like this tournament. The ability to shut down 1 to 3 ships gives you a great advantage, even of only temporary shut down.

2) Tech 2 drones & Meta drones are banned this tournament. Unlike the previous one, which saw an overabundance of Gecko-drone users & tech 2 drones. Usually drones are a nice counter to ECM as you can reassign them to others & you can't jam a flight of them, allowing you to chase off or even destroy the Jammer.

2) The banning of Dampening scripts. These tend to be a good counter to ECM as well, as they force the usually fragile ECM ships to close in, making them more vulnerable to be shot.

With two counters nerfed, the large deployment of ECM was to be a given at this Alliance Tournament as it's a tool that gives a large advantage for the team that wields it.

Alliance Tournament ships galore!

I reported last weekend already that AT ship prizes were used in this Tournament, namely the Malice. but this weekend the Malice AT9 frigate was fielded more liberally, by multiple teams, showing the lethality of this ship in team engagements.
However, the Malice wasn't the only AT prize ship that was seen this tournament. Pandemic Legion brought in the Etana logistic cruiser on the field in their matchs against Shadow Cartel.
While Shadow Cartel lost this match, they did bring home a moral victory by blowing up the prized Etana cruiser!

The Etana cruiser is an offspring of the Osprey Caldari cruiser. It was designed during Heth's rule to assist in espionage & covert operations. Prototypes of this ship were deployed to spy on Gallente ship & troop movements around Caldari Prime.
In order to perform this function, this logistic cruiser was equipped with a covert jump drive & advanced electronics allowing it to have an unparalleled shield transfer rate and equip a covert ops cloak on top of it.
The State sponsored the 10th Alliance Tournament, providing a batch of 50 Etana logistic cruisers for the wining team Verge of Collapse.

Closing note

Quite some tense & close matches now. Not to mention that multiple teams fielded AT prize ships, risking billions to win their matches. While it does give the Team that uses the AT prize ship a nice advantage, the Alliance Tournament is the event to use them, as they're far to rare & expensive for normal combat operations. not to mention that the opposing team can score a bonus moral victory by blowing one of these ships up, as Shadow Cartel did with the Etana from Pandemic Legion!

Also the Tournament matches went smooth now, no hiccups or rule-lawyering, boosting everyone's enjoyment!
Now onwards to the Grand Finals! Where the best of the best duke it out to win fabulous prizes!Jandice Ymladrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02239857410831380959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665217779997647679.post-82840133686749912792015-08-23T08:29:00.001+02:002015-08-23T09:20:08.177+02:00Succession trials confirmed next year to select the new Emperor/Empress

It was further revealed that the Succession Trials would mirror those of YC105, where Capsuleers were chosen as champions of the Houses to represent the Heirs.
Currently, the details of the Championship Succession Trials aren't known yet, as each Trial is unique, its rules adapted to the times they occur in & to eliminate mistakes made in previous Trial Championships.
A part has already been unveiled however & it seems in line with the previous Succession Trial Championship held in YC105

Current known rules & regulations

-Succession Trial Date: 21 to 23 April of YC 118
-Only Amarr & Khanid ships will be allowed to participate (In detail: only ships that exclusively require Amarr ship skills) The class of ship has not yet been determined.
- Champions must have positive unmodified standings towards the Amarr Empire
- Champions can be of any race or Bloodline (a change from the previous Championship!)

When happy celebrations turns into shock & mourning

What was supposed to be a happy celebration as the newest Imperial flagship would be unveiled to the people turned into one of the darkest days of the Amarr Empire.

Hundreds of capsuleers had gathered at Safizon to witness the arrival of Empress Jamyl Sarum I in her Titan along with her escort of Aeon supercarriers. To honour her, CVA/PIE/SFRIM capsuleers & friends held a prayer for her.

Even the station turrets were modified to enhance the celebration as they shot fireworks across the crowd, making everyone feel excited for the upcoming reveal.

But then, a dark nightmare became reality when a large fleet of Drifter battleships appeared all of a sudden amidst the speech of the Empress. Wasting no time, they fired two volleys. One volley took out the Imperial Titan Seraph, the second smaller volley fired at her escape pod. Then the sinister Drifter taskforce warped out, leaving hundreds of capsuleers & their crews behind in shock & confusion as it all went so fast...

Chaos erupted as people began shouting, overloading comms. Rumours spread that Amarr was under siege, causing many fleets to warp as soon as they could to the system. All the while, the Admirals of the Imperial Navy called for order & asked to secure the area; to assure the Drifter taskforce was really gone.

Arriving at Amarr, nobody could confirm the presence of Drifters, yet people remained vigilant, scouring the system. In the end, it turned out to be a false alarm.

What will happen now is unsure. Capsuleers claim that she has died during the attack, as people confirmed to have seen her corpse.

This attack showed the lethal danger the Drifters present. they can strike anywhere, anytime they desire, taking out whatever they choose & withdraw in impunity... Dark days have befallen the Amarr Empire... and perhaps the cluster if their aggression expands...

Currently, it is not known why the Drifters were so focused on the Empress, to the point that they ignored everyone else & retreated once her ship was gone.

Following this announcement, the entire Imperial Navy was set on high alert. Chamberlain Haromi also called for a meeting of all the heads of the Imperial armed forces and the Imperial government to assess the situation & react accordingly.
The reactions of the other nations & Concord upon receiving this shocking news

An official publication has combined the various responses of Concord, the State, the Federation and the Republic. below you'll find a summary of it.

The Concord assembly has put their fleet in the highest state of alert since the Sansha attacks of YC 112. They also expressed that while they were shocked & saddened by the sudden death of Empress Jamyl Sarum I, they'll remain vigilant & that the Drifters are their highest threat priority to the peace & stability of New Eden

In the State, the Chief Executive Panel has released a statement, offering their condolences to their allies and that they shall mourn the Empress' death. They furthermore stated that she was an important figure in maintaining the friendly relations between the State & Empire.
In reaction to the Drifter attack, the Caldari Navy has been placed on high alert and the Megacorporation Security forces have been mobilized to secure the State from their aggression.

The Gallente President Jacus Roden praised Empress Jamyl Sarum I for her clarity in matters regarding the Amarr Empire & its people. While the President & the Empress often disagreed in important matters & morals, he still called her a positive influence on the Gallente-Amarr relations and therefor offered condoleances to the people of the Empire in name of the Gallente Federation.
The Gallente Navy has been put on invasion alert, making sure that their fleets occupy strategic defensive positions to deflect possible incoming attacks. The Federan Intelligence Operations also have been put on high alert, keeping track of all Drifter activity in federation space.

Sanmator Maleatu Shakor of the Minmatar Republic remarked briefly that he was dismayed at the ability of the Drifters to penetrate the security of a major power and violently remove their head of state. Further on, he declared that after a session with the Tribal Council that the Drifters pose no immediate threat to the Republic and therefor no actions are being undertaken against them. He further expresses his concerns that the current instability in the Amarr Empire could lead to an increased suffering of the enslaved people.
Meanwhile, in parts of the Republic, citizens are far less restricted in their response, celebrating the death of the Empress, whom they sometimes refer to as 'The Witch'. The Sanmator declined to comment on these celebrations, albeit Chief Tenerhaddi Dykon of the Krusual Tribe was more open about it, station that he rejoiced as he would rejoice at the death of a rabid slaver hound.

From the Alliance Tournament kickoff to the various Drifter attacks in Amarr space, there has been no shortage of news to report on.
The Alliance Tournament is a yearly recurring competition where capsuleers compete to see who has the best team. Broadcasted across the cluster to be viewed by billions of citizens across the various nations, it is one of the largest & most known capsuleer events in New Eden.
So far, it's been entertaining, with all recurring teams being backed by their fans still going strong in the Tournament. Quite some of the new teams had a good run as well, adding flavour to the tournament.
Undoubtedly, the upcoming weekend will see some serious battles being fought in the competition, as the teams aim to claim the top prizes consisting of the Interceptor & Heavy Interdictor Sansha ships!
Then again, for the less fortunate, PLEX prizes & a Sansha skin license awaits!

The rising threat of the Drifters on the other hand is an issue that can't be ignored, as they launched yet another assault on Amarr space. Suspecting the Drifters plan to sabotage the first official flight of the new Imperial Flagship, CVA has called out to organize a fleet & be ready for the worst. State supporters have already stated they will stand by their allies in these dark times.
So if the Drifters try anything, at the ceremony, the capsuleers are ready to challenge them.

Now onward to this week's immigrants. With thanks to capsuleers Francophobia, & many others, alot of refugees can look forward to a bright new future!

Red Team = Winner's Team!

Did you know that during the first weekend, Red team won nearly all matches? This is especially noticeable on Day 1 in both systems & Day 2 in the PE1-R1 system. The only exception to it is the Day 2 competition in JB-007 where it was mostly blue teams that won.

Can't touch the Malice!

On the first day, in the "Black Legion. vs Warlords from the Deep", the WotD team deployed a very rare & expensive ship! Namely the Malice, an AT 9 tournament prize ship!
The function of the ship during this match was bait & it worked greatly. The BL team primaried the frigate, trying to shoot it down, but they failed, giving the victory to the Warlords of the Deep! The Malice survived this ordeal.
On the second day, the Warlords of the Deep used two Malice frigates against their opponent The Methodical Allaince. This expensive deployment was successful & they once again won the day!
On the same, there was another team that deployed a Malice, namely The Camel Empire who sent theirs against the Agony Empire team. Once again with success.

Some info about this unusual frigate, the Malice is a design from the Amarr Empire that was designed exclusively for the capsuleer winners of the 9th Alliance Tournament. This rare frigate includes state of the art technology in both defense and offence, providing enhanced armor resists and extended power & range to small laser turrets. It also comes with enhanced energy drain & neutralize systems, making it a lethal opponent on the battlefield.
So far the Malice is the only AT prize ship that's been fielded this Alliance Tournament.

6 Flagships down vs 1 the next day

Most teams have selected a flagship for use. These ships can circumvent certain rules on fitting, but must be approved first by the Tournament. Also, the team may only use 1 of these fitted ships for the whole tournament, so if they are destroyed, that team cannot use their Flagship anymore!
In this case, there's quite the difference of Flagships taken out. The first day saw 6 of them down. Apparently, this made the teams alot more careful in the next day, as only 1 went down then!

Alliance Tournament rule violations & rulings

Bad news is that there have been two rule violations. both of them not picked up by referees or rule checkers until after the match was over. You can check Alliance Tournament rules here: 13th Alliance Tournament Rules.

That Escalated Quickly Flagship uses an illegal meta module

In the match "Nulli Secunda vs That Escalated Quickly", NS managed to blow up the Barghest Flagship. Shortly after this, killmail observers spotted the usage of a Capacitor booster meta module, which may not be allowed, not even under the Flagship exception rules.

Keep in mind, That Escalated Quickly is a new team & this is their first tournament. On top of this, Flagship fits must be submitted at least a week in advance in order to verify that these fits don't break the fitting rules for them.
The main culprit behind this is the rule 'Faction Capacitor Boosters are allowed' which refers to the capacitor booster charges, not the capacitor booster module! Hopefully an update to this rule will make it more clear for future new teams in the tournament & those who check fits.

In the end, That Escalated Quickly was given a warning, a fair ruling considering this was their first Tournament, that they lost the match and because the meta module should have been picked up during the Flagship fit submission.

Together we Solo warps in beyond maximum range established by rules

In the match "Together We Solo vs Gone Critical", the TWS team warped in at 100 km while the rules state that the max warp in distance is 50 km. On top of this, it was not picked up by the referees at the time. To make matters worse, the TWS team won this match.
Considering that weapon effectiveness is highly range dependent, this can be seen as a large unfair advantage for the TWS team.

Despite this, the TWS team was given a warning, despite the fact that GC could have won if the match was played out by the rules. Note, this ruling was first discussed between the TWS team & GC Team before made public. Neither team opposed the rulings.
In this case, a rematch would have been more fair, as the unfair advantage very likely skipped the match in favor of TWS, who did won it.

Closing note

All in all, the matches were fun to watch, seeing some quick team collapses, but also hard stances of those who won't give up, fighting tooth & nail for their matches.
There were some unusual setups as well, with the Curatores Veritates Alliance gaining alot of attention, as many expected them to field Amarr ships due to their allegiance to the Amarr Empire. yet they surprised everyone by bringing a Vargur ship team!
Seeing a Malice in action was a rare but great sight as well! Cheers for Warlords of the Deep risking one in their tournament.

It's a shame about the rule violations, but the teams involved did agree with the ruling outcomes, so that should be the final word on it. Hopefully, the Alliance Tournament management learns from these two cases, so that in the end they'll have a positive effect for future matches.
After all, almost all matches were fought fair & people had a blast! Lets focus on that instead of two negative cases!Jandice Ymladrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02239857410831380959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665217779997647679.post-92122145732042111972015-08-16T15:32:00.000+02:002015-08-21T22:10:18.794+02:00Amarr Navy repels third Drifter assault

Second attack on Safizon deflected

On 15 august, the Drifters launched their third strike on the Amarr Empire, targeting the Imperial Navy Headquarters. But this time the Amarr Empire was prepared for them.
A large fleet of battleships, cruisers & frigates defended the system under the command of Grand Admiral Ren Karetta. On top of this, the Grand Admiral called out for capsuleers to assist in the defense. Many capsuleers responded to his command, among them PIE, CVA, SFRIM & FCORD forces.

This time, the Drifters had alot more trouble pressing their attack, as the Imperial Navy successfully defended several system critical locations like Stargates & the Imperal Navy HQ. Through the fight, the Imperial Navy bore the brunt of the Drifter offensive, destroying many of their ships without suffering too much losses.
In the end, the Drifters were disposed of fairly fast compared to the first attack on Safizon that saw Drifter skirmishes for hours on end. This successful & efficient defense can be attributed to the deployment of the Imperial 3rd Fleet commanded by Grand Admiral Ren Karetta

More on the second Safizon attack can be read in the official report: Imperial Navy Forces pushes back second Drifter advance
You can also view the Scope report on it: Drfter forces assault Amarr Navy HQ in Safizon

Originally it was suspected that the Drifters target Safizon because of the construction of the newest Amarr Flagship, the TES Auctoritas. However this is unlikely as this advanced ship is currently in the Ebidan system, where it is performing flight trials for the next week or two.
What triggers the Drifter attacks on Safizon is currently not known, albeit speculations are abound. The most heared one is that the Imperial Navy HQ houses a piece of advanced technology that the Drifters either want to recover or to destroy. Keep in mind, this is merely speculation!

But this is not all... recently reports have reached me from reliable sources that the Drifters are acting aggressively beyond the borders of Amarr space!

Gallente Gate patrols engage in skirmishes with Drifters!

Recently, people witnessed small skirmishes between the Gallente Navy & Police forces and the Drifters. So far they've been small & limited in scope. Witnesses report that shots are being traded, but that they stand down after a time, ceasing aggression.
What triggers the small skirmishes is unknown, but it remains a worrying trend...

So far, no reports of skirmishes have come from the State or Republic, but currently there's not enough information to confirm this.
All that we can tell is that the Drifters are no longer solely aggressive towards Amarr, but that they now annoy Gallente Gate patrols to a point that fire is being exchanged. So far no full out battles have been reported, but this might only be a matter of time...
Capsuleers who witnessed skirmishes between Drifters & other navy or Police forces are always welcome to report this to me & the official organisations. If possible, take images of it, in the hope additional info can be retrieved through it!Jandice Ymladrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02239857410831380959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665217779997647679.post-71517585894835047672015-08-15T17:30:00.000+02:002015-08-17T11:29:45.770+02:00The 13th Alliance tournament has kicked off!

Introduction

The Alliance tournament has started it's 13th edition this weekend, pitching the best teams against each other! The winners will gain cluster-wide fame & acccess to ships normally excluded from capsuleer ownership.

This year sees 64 teams competing against each other to show off who's the best & earn the prizes! The prizes itself are controversial, as they're based on Sansha ship designs, but better. Yes, that Sansha, who threatened to lay waste to the New Eden cluster!
The tournament itself will run over 3 weekends. The first weekend, from 15 to 16 August is an elimination round, to sort out the best teams, who will then combat each other the following weekend from 22 to 23 August.
And once the best of the best are known, the big showdown happens on 29 & 30 August, to determine who's the top team of this year's tournament!

The Tournament schedule can be found here: 13th Alliance Tournament match schedule

13th Alliance Tournament prizes

In the competition, there's a ton of prizes to win, from general awards to very rare & coveted ships. Below you'll find a list of this year's prizes & a link to the official source!

The Alliance Tournament Cup

For the winning alliance only. The cup is relocated to the winning member each year & is unique. Engraved on the cup is a list of all the previous winners of the Alliance tournament.

Alliance tournament medals

There's two different sets of alliance tournament medals.
One is reserved for the teams that ended 1st, 2nd & 3rd, allowing them to show off the rank they achieved during the competition.
The other set is granted to the team & their alliance they represented. These medals are granted to the top 32, top 16, top 8, 4th spot, 3rd spot, 2nd spot and 1st spot. You can only get one award, the highest your alliance scored.

PLEX

These are the PLEX the teams had to pay as entry fee for the tournament. They are redistributed among the winners based on the rank they achieved.
Teams placed 32nd to 17th get 5 PLEX per team
The top 16 teams get 15 PLEX each.

Spaceship prizes

Now we get to the interesting prizes, the stuff everyone fights for! As mentioned above, this year's ships are based on enhanced versions of the Sansha frigates & cruisers. On top of this, a Sansha battleship skin will also be awarded to the teams.

The distribution of the prized ships is this:
-1st place: 25 Cruisers & 25 Frigates
-2nd place: 15 Cruisers & 15 Frigates
-3rd place: 7 Cruisers & 7 Frigates
-4th place: 3 Cruisers & 3 Frigates

The Sansha Frigate is called the Imp and classified as an interceptor & is normally not available to players. Same with the Sansha Cruiser named Fiend which is classified as Heavy Interdictor and normally not available to capsuleers.

The Alliance Tournament Sansha Battleship Skin prize will be handed in packets of 10 per team per match won. In short, there will be plenty of them available! So if you would like one, keep an eye on the market once they're released as there are bound to be a few sold there. Just keep in mind prizes will likely be steep due to the small number that will find their way to the market!

Quite the long list, but you can already see a trend in Flagship selection. The Bhaalgorn is a very popular choice, with only the Armageddon peeping out from the rest of the selections. The reason is fairly simple. In small group engagements, the Bhaalgorn is a formidable opponent, able to shut down multiple targets at the same time if well directed & supported. Not to mention that it is capable of fielding a strong tank, at the cost of mobility.
Keep in mind, teams can always field their Flagships, even if the other team banned this ship hull from their match. But once a flagship is destroyed, it may no longer be fielded in any future match of the tournament.
Prologue

The Salus project was originally set up to search & recover Hilen Tukoss after we received the messages from both the fake & real Hilen Tukoss. But this search turned out to become much more then anticipated. Through the intensive search for the Arek'Jaalan founder, we stumbled on alot of new discoveries. From shattered wormholes to strange Drifter structures.

Hilen Tukoss himself disappeared several years ago, when he wanted to find out what happened to Lianda Burreau after her ship was found inside the wormhole system J105934 along with a piece of Trinary data aboard, a Jove relic. She and her team were one of the first to travel into wormhole space as an assignment from Creodron. Shortly after she broadcasted the discovery of a new civilisation (Sleepers) she vanished & was presumed lost.
In an attempt to find out what happened, Hilen Tukoss took matters in his own hands & went looking for her, only to go missing himself...

The search for Hilen Tukoss

Almost a year ago, we received messages from Hilen Tukoss, who disappeared a few years prior as he was investigating the wormhole systems. It was quickly discovered that there were two broadcasters identifying themselves as him. The first messages were from an entity that pretended to be Hilen Tukoss, in a successful attempt to acquire Jove body parts. The latter messages are believed to be from the real Hilen Tukoss.

These messages lead to the creation of Project Salus, to search for Hilen Tukoss & discover what is going on. From the little info collected, it was determined he was held captive in a wormhole system.
Initially, the search for Hilen Tukoss didn't got alot of priority, until the Caroline Star event, that set in motion an avalanche of events, from the Seeker's arrival to the discovery of many new wormholes. These major changes turned Project Salus into a priority, as it was believed that Hilen Tukoss had acquired crucial data during his captivity.

For many months, dozens of capsuleers scouted wormhole systems, in search for clues. During this they mapped out the shattered wormhole systems, discovered the Sansha staging grounds embedded deep in wormhole space. Diplomatic contact with the Drifters and Seekers was also attempted, hoping to appeal to them for clues on Hilen Tukoss' whereabouts, but to no avail.
despite all the efforts people put in it, it was as if we were chasing a ghost. Despite the many discoveries made during the Salus Project, we didn't seem to get closer on finding the Arek'Jaalan founder.

But the release of a disturbing recording that was leaked to Scope put the search in overdrive, as it depicted a massive gathering of Drifter battleships & was voiced by Hilen Tukoss. Shortly after this announcement, it was discovered that the Drifter wormholes could be traversed. The reason for this is unknown, as the Drifters still fire on anyone approaching their wormholes, so we're clearly not wanted in there.

Body of Hilen Tukoss found

At long last, the corpse of Hilen Tukoss was found as reported by the Scope. In a public announcement by Makoto Priano, it was revealed that his body was found in a newly discovered wormhole system, occupied by the Drifters. Alongside his corpse was also the presence of an immense structure, a Drifter Hive structure! Initially this fine group of explorers were honored by the DED for their dedication & the retrieval of his biomass.

Hilen Tukoss' corpse, image provided by Makoto Priano

However, the situation turned sour rapidly after Concord announced they would sanction these capsuleers if they did not turn over the recovered biomass.
They were even willing to put hefty bounties on them & sanction their corporations! Such heavy handed threats towards capsuleers are a rare occasion & made many a capsuleer frown. Especially because in a later public statement, the involved capsuleers stated they wanted to cooperate as much as they can, without surrendering critical pieces of evidence to Concord, preventing them to take their usual 'We don't reveal information' policy.

Shortly after this announcement, negotiations went smoother, allowing Concord to confirm the remains were indeed Hilen Tukoss.
In an public release, Concord officially confirmed the death of Hilen Tukoss by Transneural Brun Scan Failure, a rare occurrence where the neural transmitting from the capsuleer clone to the new clone body fails due to an error in the burning process.
On top of this, Concord also confirmed all charges against the involved capsuleers were dropped & they praised their efforts once more. This indicates that something went wrong during initial communications. Not a surprise considering the Concord Official appointed for these negotiations, Odo Korachi, is not known for his tactful & diplomatic approaches....

This left Eifyr & Co to execute the last will of the deceased Hilen Tukoss & send his corpse to Piekura, for a proper burial at his homeground.
To honour his achievements & pay respect, capsuleer Dutchgunner organized a Memorial service that drew in a large crowd who all wanted to pay last respects to Hilen Tukoss.

The search continues

Despite all the above, the search for Hilen Tukoss continues as some believe he had a backup system ready for something like this. This would be unlikely, as the analysis has revealed that the burn process itself did not ru n like it should, indicating a high risk on permanent damage for memory data transfer.
Another speculation is that Hilen Tukoss still lives on in a digital form aboard a Sleeper or Seeker ship but that he's not fully aware of this aspect. This speculation find ground in the decrypted message where he announces he would head towards Site One and urges capsuleers not to shoot on Sleeper/Seeker ships as he would be flying one.
So far no Seeker has been sighted on Site One with odd behaviour, or a Sleeper ship, yet various capsuleers keep an eye out for his arrival, just in case.
It's also possible that this search will never come to a satisfying conclusion, but that does not need to be a bad thing. So far, the search for Hilen Tukoss yielded a ton of information & made staggering discoveries, like the Drifter Hive structures in the newly discovered wormhole systems.Jandice Ymladrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02239857410831380959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665217779997647679.post-2942253462168030832015-08-09T09:56:00.001+02:002015-08-09T13:11:32.107+02:00Capsuleers present petition to Eifyr & Co

Prelude: What is Eifyr & Co's role in recent events?

They are the company that employed Hilen Tukoss after his departure at Zainou Biotech in YC 113; They also assisted him & his Arek'Jaalan project the construction of Site One & overseeing it after his disappearance.
When Hilen Tukoss returned, they were not contacted directly, but were happy to see him back. During these events a mysterious container was placed at Site One for the acquisition of Jove body parts for Hilen Tukoss. This objective was met, despite that later it turned out this Hilen Tukoss was a fake, a possible impersonation of him by the Drifters.
They were also interrogated by DED officials after suspicion that they had withheld an important broadcast by Hilen Tukoss regarding the Drifters.

Ever since Hilen Tukoss disappearance & later confirmed death, Eifur & Co managed the Arek'Jaalan HQ Site One and let it dormant for the most time. But with the arrival of the Seekers & Drifters, capsuleers have been pushing for a reactivation & expansion of the site as it was and still is the prime location containing information & research on the wormholes & Sleepers, who are probably related to the Seekers & Drifters.
The petition handed over by Dutchgunner is a formalization of these requests & some more that are seen to be important to the capsuleer scientific community.

The petition to Eifyr & Co & a visit to Site One

The Arek'Jaalan project has seen alot of activity as of late, with capsuleers across Eden assisting in various research projects to better understand the new discoveries made in wormhole systems & the nature of the Drifters.
Despite all this activity, the Arek'Jaalan capsuleers were unable to access Site One except for reading & downloading the archives. On top of this, Eifyr & Co don't seem to have an interest in expanding the facility to accommodate for the additional projects & discoveries made regarding wormhole systems & their inhabitants.

A petition was called for to address these issues formally, hoping Eifyr & Co would respond more positively to a rally to their station. This was deemed necessary as there's no official contact among Eifyr & Co regarding the Arek'Jaalan project.
The rally for the petition would occur on 8 august, 19H, announced by capsuleer Dutchgunner who also organized the memorial service for Hilen Tukoss. Scientific ships like scanner ships & Sister of Eve ships were preferred, but anyone who could come to support the rally was welcome.

Science ships at the petition rally

The rally itself was a success, with over a dozen people in various science ships present, from covop frigates to the Nestor science battleship! Among the attendees was also a Sanctuary Stratios cruiser, a rare sight! With this support gathered outside the Eifyr & Co HQ station at Elgoi, the petition was published for anyone to read prior to the handover to officials.
The petition requests are as following:

1) To have the container that is currently anchored within Site One: Antiquus removed and analyzed. It was used by an entity that pretended to be Hilen Tukoss. I am aware that it is very unlikely that any clues to the origin of the container or the person who placed it can be found. At the very least it will serve the purpose of removing a unneeded and unwelcome object.

2) To consider expanding the current facilities in Site One: Antiquus with a Caldari Research Outpost structure. The construction would be done in the same way as with the construction of Site One itself. The capsuleers will provide the needed materials and resources within a certain time.
An additional and useful expansion would be a construct that allows limited interaction with capsuleer ships. This would be in order to allow the unloading of gathered resources (such as from beyond wormholes).

3) Should this expansion take place, to name the structure after Hilen Tukoss and to allow scientists from all corporations and nations to join the Arek'Jalaan project. This would be in line with the strive of the Arek'Jalaan project to provide transparency on the research that is done and on its results.

4) To assign or appoint a contact from Eifyr and Co for matters strictly related to the operations of Site One: Antiquus and the research that is done there. This would be to communicate the needs for materials or supplies, in what quantities and also when it is needed.

5) To share more information on the will of the late Hilen Tukoss. This would provide some insight into how we can continue the Arek'Jalaan project on his behalf and in the way he intended it.

The petition broadcast was closed with the sentence Hnolai ki tuul, ti sei oni a tiu, a Napaani saying that translates into: Honored are the dead, for their legacy guides us.

These requests have been made in hope for a more smooth operation of Arek'Jaalan's Site One & a better cooperation with Eifyr & Co. They would also help in honoring Hilen Tukoss' legacy & continue his work.

Shortly after this announcement, the rally set course for Site One, just a jump away from the Eifyr & Co HQ. Originally meant as a visit to accentuate the importance of the site to the Arek'Jaalan project, it quickly turned into a new attempt to analyze the mysterious container placed for the entity that impersonated Hilen Tukoss to get the Jove bodyparts. Can't place a dozen scientists & their tools together without them analyzing something!

Data & Relic analyzers worked briefly on it, until access to the container was granted. After this they no longer locked on, combined with the system message that access has been authorized. This was already known, but never hurts to try again, to check for variables.
A temporary science lab for more intensive analysis was also set up by capsuleer Trii Seo, in order to acquire more secured information. While this was a partial success, the results will be investigated thoroughly before being released to the general audience.
On top of this, data gathering with the Entosis Link has also been attempted. Crystal Chantreuse was the brave capsuleer who volunteered for this, turning off all the safeties of her ship in order to maximize the potential for data gathering & response. However, the Entosis Link could not activate on the container or any other Site One installation.

Conclusion

The petition rally was a success, as most folks showed up with their science ships to support the initiative.
I personally hope for an expansion of Site One, in honor of Hilen Tukoss, so his legacy will have a visible component, honoring his work to unite capsuleers in a common science project.
A direct contact for the operation of Site One would also be more then welcome, to accommodate for future research projects & requests. This would vastly reduce the need for capsuleers to rally outside Eifyr & Co HQ every time a major event happens in regards to wormholes & associated places.

The analysis of the container was unplanned, yet inevitable when you gather a group of scientists with their tools around an object that is not fully understood.

More information could be gleamed off it if we could have full access to it as by petition's request, but for now, we'll have to do with what we can to unlock it's mysteries.

Striking terror in the hearts of many, the formidable Drifter battleships

Prelude

Ever since the arrival of the Drifters earlier this year, tensions have been on the rise in new Eden.
From the moment they arrived they proved to be a force to be reckoned with, piloting ships that are more then a match for capsuleer ships & able to adapt to our tactics.
The past few months saw the Drifters taking an aggressive stance, mainly against the Amarr & those who try to analyze their technology. To what end the Drifters are roaming in our space is not yet fully understood, but considering past events, it's not for peaceful study...

Counted from their arrival in New Eden, 4 major conflicts are known, 3 of them were initiated by the Drifters. Below you'll find more details about each of the battles.

First Contact

When the Drifters made a first appearance, many capsuleers sought them out, some to study or to observe, but many did to destroy, kill & plunder. But those with hostile intentions got a nasty surprise... These Drifters packed considerable firepower & strong defenses in a high speed battleship. The first few days saw a massacre as the Drifters defended themselves from capsuleer aggression.
The massive destruction caused during this early period set their reputation as a strong foe & that they should not be taken lightly, as even capital ships perished in their wake!

Once the excitement about the new arrivals had died down, most left the Drifters alone, content to observe them & see what they were up to. A few kept engaging them, in order to adapt to the Drifter weapons & tactics, but this backfired, as the Drifters used these engagements to adapt their technology & weaponry to the capsuleer combatstyle & weapons. Among these adaptions was upgrading their sensors to render them immune to ECM attacks & extending the range of their capital weapon, the Aegis Beam.

The Yulai attack

For a while, the status quo remained, the capsuleers observed the Drifters & the Drifters kept to their own devices, protecting their installations.
But in May, this all changed. A group of capsuleers (Anslo, Mizhir, Kybernetes Moros, Kalo Askold) had performed a successful autopsy on a recovered Drifter corpse & had shared their findings to the DED. In turn, the DED held a press conference & broadcasted a live holo about these findings, to inform all of New Eden about the discoveries made by these four capsuleers.
But right at the point the Press was allowed to question the four capsuleers about their findings, the holofeed was disrupted & a small fleet of Drifters appeared at the DED station in Yulai. There was no question about their intentions once they began opening fire on the gathered capsuleers!

While the Drifter taskforce was small, 4 battleships, they managed to cause quite some damage as they initiated the attack on an unprepared group. Luckily, the capsuleers regrouped & countered the Drifter aggression swiftly due to their superio numbers.
This attack did mark the end of the DED Yulai press conference however. It is also significant, as this is the first time the Drifters initiated an attack, but it would not be the last time....

The attack on the Imperial Celebration

Originally meant to be a celebration for the capsuleer organisations PIE & Imperial Dreams, existing 12 years, it was modified & enlarged after Empress Jamyl Sarum's decree to share classified new shield technology with the cluster to heed her call to stand united. This would occur in June, at the Mekhios Graveyard in Sarum prime, the place where Empress Jamyl returned in full glory & decimated an invading Minmatar Elder Fleet.

The celebration itself was a display of Imperial might & power by the capsuleers loyal to the Amarr Empire. But all of a sudden, an Imperial Navy officer warned of an impending Drifter attack!
Before they even got a chance to reorganize, the Drifter armada arrived on field and began opening fire! Under the guidance of the CVA Fleet commanders, a full retreat was called in order to reorganizing into a combat formation, as the fleets were still in parade formation & not suitable to combat such large force.

The capsuleer fleet engaging the Drifters, image by Stargazer

During this chaotic period, some capsuleers were left behind in the Mekhios graveyard, watching the large Drifter fleet wreck havoc as they opened fire on the fleeing ships. During this chaotic period, there's been unconfirmed reports of strange sounds & odd flashes.
Whatever it was, by the time the main fleets returned to kick the Drifters out of Amarr space, it was noticed that quite some Drifters had lost their blue overshield, their strongest defense. Seeing this as a sign that God was on their side, the defense fleet pushed even harder, hammering down the Drifters who were not prepared for such a swift & coherent response to their aggression.

You can read more about this celebration here: Amarr & Allies destroy Drifter armada and here: 12 years of Imperial Dreams

This attack is more disturbing then the one at Yulai, as this celebration had no direct connection to the Drifters & their technology. They just attacked out of nowhere & seemingly without an obvious meaning.
The observation that several Drifter battleships had lost their blue overshield is interesting. It has been suggested it had to do with the location, that residual energy from the superweapon used to destroy the Elder fleet interfered with Drifter shield technology. However, nothing has been confirmed regarding this, except that there were too few capsuleers on the field to cause so many overshields to be down before the return of the main fleet.

The Safizon attack

A few days ago, the Drifters launched a third attack, once again with a large fleet; This second armada of theirs targeted the Safizon system, where a new Imperial Issue Abaddon is being built, rumored with integrated advanced technologies.
The Imperial Navy wasted no time & rallied en mass to defend the system from Drifter aggression. Despite this swift response, they were defeated, forcing high command to regroup & call on capsuleers to aid them in the defense of Safizon.

The Imperial Navy defending one of the gates

However, capsuleers quicly noted that the Amarr Navy had struck a great blow already to the Drifters, as they lost a substantial part of their fleet already.
Despite this, the battle for Safizon would rage on for many hours before the cleanup could begin. During the fight, many capsuleers noticed the advanced combat tactics employed by the Drifters. This combined with their advanced technology meant they were much harder to drive out the system.

The nightmare of every capsuleer, Drifter focus fire in action, image by Caroline Grace

Ultimately the Drifters were driven out, with the combined effort of capsuleers & the Imperial Navy.
Just like the second attack, there was no direct connection or provocation for the attack. While Safizon is the system where a new Imperial issue Abaddon flagship is being built, it's not clear if it's related to the Drifter aggression. It could be that the Drifters simply wanted to test combat tactics & reaction time of the Amarr Empire & it's allies.
You can read more about the Safizon attack here: Amarr Coalition defeat Drifter armada in Safizon and here: Cleanup begins in aftermath of Safizon attack

Conclusion

So far, the Drifters launched 3 attacks, two of these with a large fleet, who were both in Amarr space. Coupled with this is that there's far more sightings of roaming Drifter battleships in Amarr space then any other nation.
For now it's unclear why the Amarr are such a priority for the Drifters, but one of the reasons could be the lead in wormhole & sleeper technology that the Amarr Empire enjoys.
Also, while the Amarr Empire attracted the most attention, the Drifters are not above striking other targets beyond Amarr space, as their attack in Yulai displayed.

Some capsuleers have called to 'stop the provocation & initiate diplomacy' but it's my fear that this ship has sailed. Diplomatic efforts have been tried, the Drifters took note but did not respond to Arek'Jaalan's offering of diplomatic contact.
Also, the Drifters have attacked the core of the Amarr Empire on purpose twice with an armada of their Battleships without any direct provocation or declaration of terms. In both cases, the Amarr Empire & it's allies were in their right to respond with laserfire to defend themselves.

It's doubtful that these incidents are the last. We must stand ready to defend ourselves from the Drifters, for they'll surely strike again. Finding out what triggers or motivates their attacks would be a great help in organizing an effective counterfleet against their invading armada's.

As a closing note, Concord officials have published a short overview in holoform about the events that transpired from the discovery of Caroline's Star to the recent drifter attacks, along with speculative images of the drifters themselves in action:
